Job Description

Position Summary:
ALL CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR
Essential Functions & Responsibilities The responsibilities listed below reflect the primary duties of the position; the omission of specific statements of responsibilities that are similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position to meet program, legal, or operational needs does not exclude them from the role Assist the All-City Middle School Orchestra Director in the following: Recruit members from grades 6-8 into the ensemble from all K8 buildings Collect appropriate data during registration to assist in communication with parents/guardians. Communicate with parents and families about attendance, behaviors and upcoming events Hold regular rehearsals on Thursdays, from 3:30 - 5:00pm at Somerville High School Select adequate repertoire for grade and ability levels Conduct rehearsals with appropriate musicality and technique Prepare ensemble for at least two concert performances, winter and spring Prepare for any other performances as agreed upon by the ensemble director and the Supervisor of Music/Theatre Arts. Supervises or assists with any agreed upon fundraising opportunities that benefit the students in their ensemble. Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills Bachelors or higher level degree in Music Education Strong communication skills, both oral and written Exemplary interpersonal communications skills that establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents and members of the community Proficiency in multi-cultural music genres and traditional genres Knowledge of school policies and student supervision requirements Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students Ability to maintain a safe, inclusive environment and respond appropriately to student needs or unexpected situations Reliability; consistent attendance and punctuality Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
