High School Position Overview The Technical Director oversees the technical elements of Lakeview Masque high school productions and serves as the primary adult supervisor and mentor for the student technical/booth crew. This position works closely with the Masque Program Director, other directors, designers, and student crew members to ensure that the technical aspects of each production are organized, prepared, and executed safely and effectively. Key Responsibilities Oversee the technical production needs for assigned high school productions, including lighting, sound, projections/media, microphones, backstage technology, and other technical elements as appropriate. Serve as the primary adult supervisor for the student booth crew and provide guidance, training, and mentorship throughout the production process. Recruit, organize, and assign student technical crew members to appropriate booth and technical responsibilities. Teach students the proper operation of technical equipment and production procedures, allowing students to develop hands-on technical theatre skills. Create and maintain technical schedules, checklists, and procedures necessary for rehearsals and performances. Coordinate with directors, choreographers, designers, and other production staff to ensure technical needs are communicated and addressed in a timely manner. Attend appropriate rehearsals to coordinate technical elements, troubleshoot issues, and prepare students for performances. Oversee technical rehearsals and ensure that students understand their responsibilities and cues prior to opening. Supervise student booth crew during performances and ensure that technical operations are conducted safely and professionally. Coordinate with the Masque Program Director regarding equipment needs, technical concerns, repairs, and production requirements. Assist with setup, testing, strike, and storage of technical equipment and production materials. Maintain an organized inventory of technical equipment and communicate replacement, repair, or additional equipment needs to the Masque Program Director. Establish and reinforce appropriate safety practices for students working with lighting, sound, electrical equipment, rigging, backstage technology, and other technical equipment. Help create opportunities for high school students to develop technical theatre skills and take increasing ownership of production responsibilities. Perform other technical production duties as assigned by the Masque Program Director. Qualifications Experience in technical theatre, production, lighting, sound, or a related field. Experience operating or supervising theatrical lighting and/or sound systems preferred. Experience working with high school students and/or student technical crews preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults and work collaboratively with a production team. Ability to troubleshoot technical issues calmly and effectively during rehearsals and performances. Commitment to providing students with meaningful, hands-on technical theatre experiences.
