Vocal Director for High School Drama Club Fall Musical -
Something Rotten Overview:
The Vocal Director leads and coordinates all aspects of vocal music for the high school musical. This role ensures strong, healthy, and expressive singing while helping student performers develop confidence, musicianship, and effective vocal technique.
Responsibilities:
Teach and rehearse all vocal music, including solos, ensembles, harmonies, and full-cast numbers. Collaborate with the Director, Pit Conductor, and Choreographer to align musical interpretation, pacing, transitions, and staging. Provide vocal coaching in areas such as pitch, rhythm, diction, breath support, projection, and character interpretation. Assess vocal ranges and recommend appropriate parts, harmonies, or adjustments when needed. Prepare rehearsal tracks, vocal recordings, or other practice materials for student performers. Attend production meetings, run-throughs, technical rehearsals, and performances as needed. Monitor vocal health and encourage safe, age-appropriate singing practices. Model professionalism, musicianship, preparation, and teamwork for students.
Qualifications:
Experience teaching, directing, or coaching vocal music. Strong understanding of musical theatre vocal styles, harmonies, and score preparation. Ability to teach students with a variety of experience and skill levels. Basic piano or accompaniment skills are preferred. Effective communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Ability to create a supportive, encouraging, and productive rehearsal environment.
Time Commitment:
Rehearsals 3 days per week after school, with additional evenings during run-throughs and tech week. Attendance is requested auditions, production meetings, and all performances.
