Full Job Description About Us:

Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church is a historical church seeking a dedicated Church Musician to contribute to our worship services and community outreach. We are looking for someone who is rooted in their faith, a passion for music and a commitment to enhancing our worship experiences.

Position Overview:

The Church Musician will work alongside the pastor, choir and other church ministries to provide musical leadership for weekly services, special events as needed, and seasonal worship services. Your role will involve playing instruments, arranging music, and leading the adult and youth choir.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and or/accompany the congregation in worship songs and hymns.
• Plan and execute music selections for all choirs and music needs for the church.
• : Work with the pastor to plan worship services and other church services and activities.
• Teach music and songs to choir members of all ages as needed for church services and activities.
• Recruit members to join the choir.
• Coordinate with other church ministries to arrange music selections for programs as needed.
• Ensure music is planned for Sunday services. If absent, the Church Musician is responsible for finding a guest musician and the guest musician will be paid by the church.
• Other tasks and assignments as needed that fall within the scope of the job.

Compensation:

The Church Musician serves under the supervision of the Board of Trustees, and shall be compensated at the rate of $300 per each Sunday service attended. Qualifications

• Strong Christian in faith and practice;
• At least a bachelor's degree in Music or relevant field;
• Proficiency in playing the piano - additional musical instruments are welcomed;
• Ability to read music and arrange music for various church services as needed;
• Strong leadership, teaching, and interpersonal skills;
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail; and
• Experience working with church choirs (adult and youth) preferred.

How You Will Work:

The Church Musician will hold practice every Thursday for the adult choir and Saturdays as needed for the youth choir. The Church Musician is expected to play at each Sunday morning service. The Church Musician is expected to play at funerals, weddings and other church events as needed,

Other Special Considerations:

The musician will be expected to sign a job description acknowledgement on a yearly basis. The musician will undergo a review after the first six months of employment and then on a yearly basis or specified schedule outlined by the Trustees.
