Job Description

Position Description:
Accompanist Summary:
Community Lutheran Church in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA is seeking a talented, multifaceted keyboard accompanist with the ability to play a variety of styles. The qualified individual would find fulfillment in using both piano and organ to accompany the congregation and choir, as well as joy in collaborating with other musicians in praise band-oriented music.

REPORTS TO
Pastor, Worship & Music Committee TIME:
Approximately 8-10 hours/week
Duties:
1. Serve as accompanist for one or two worship services each Sunday morning, as well as additional services throughout the year. These services may include, but not be limited to: Holy Week, Christmas Eve, and Wednesday services during Advent and Lent. 2. Rehearse with the Chancel Choir one evening a week, and be available to rehearse with soloists or cantors. 3. Coordinate with the Choir Director regarding preparation of music for the Chancel Choir, as well as music for soloists and ensembles. 4. Provide appropriate music in a variety of musical styles on organ and piano. 5. Be knowledgeable of Lutheran hymnody and liturgy. 6. As requested, assist pastor or worship team with the selection of hymns and other worship music which is appropriate to the scripture readings, theme, and liturgical calendar. 7. Be responsible for maintenance of the instruments (e.g., the tuning of the pianos and any necessary organ software update or maintenance). 8. Participate in occasional meetings of the Worship & Music Committee to facilitate worship planning. 9. Collaborate with the Choir Director in identifying vocal and instrumental talent in the congregation for participation in the music program. 10. In case of necessary absence, arrange for a competent substitute. In case of sudden illness or unforeseen emergency, the pastor and office should be notified as soon as possible.
Requirements and Qualifications:

Basic qualifications include:
Ability to read music and have a professional understanding of music theory Familiarity with a wide range of music, sacred and secular, including classical, spiritual and contemporary. Understanding of Lutheran liturgical worship, including the church calendar of seasons, and the lectionary. 2. Enthusiastic willingness to work with people. 3. Interact with staff and parishioners in a personal and professional way. Flexibility in accommodating unanticipated changes in programming and schedules is needed. 4. Personal dedication to growth in skill and knowledge of their musical field. This would include regular practice and continuing education through reading, workshops, conferences, etc. 5. In all things keeps the mission of Christ and the ministry of CLC the top priority. 6. Maintain strict confidentiality in regards to church and personal matters. 7. Follow CLC personnel policies.
CLC will provide:
1. Office space with both upright and electric pianos, along with storage for music and equipment. 2. Rehearsal space available throughout the week. 3. High-quality instruments including a Yamaha baby grand piano and Rodgers Inspire Series organ. 4. Use of church office equipment and secretarial assistance as needed to carry out the music program of the church. 4. Paid vacation and sick time. 5. Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Pay:
$30.00 - $40.00 per hour Expected hours: 8.0 - 10.0 per week
