Job Overview Summit UU Fellowship in Santee is seeking a piano accompanist whose primary responsibilities will be to accompany weekly choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings 6 PM
7:30 PM, and play for two Sunday services each month (to accompany the choir).
Essential Functions:
Accompany the Summit Choir Rehearsal on Wednesdays, 6-7:30p
Provide all musical accompaniment for TWO Sunday Services, 10-11:15AM, with a pre-service rehearsal 9-9:45AM which includes:
Rehearsing with choir and/or other musicians prior to service
Instrumental prelude
Accompanying cantor for hymns and congregational songs
Accompanying soloists, instrumentalists, and small groups as needed
Communicate with MD and staff throughout the month for planning and the timely publication of the printed Order of Service
Occasional Music Team planning meetings (typically occur quarterly)
Possibly accompany non-Sunday holidays and special events (ex: Christmas Eve) Qualifications Excellent piano skills and the ability to play in a wide variety of diverse styles Experience accompanying soloists and choirs Ability to follow the director and the reinforce pedagogical techniques from the keyboard High level of competency reading music, playing choral parts in rehearsals, and playing both written accompaniment and from a lead sheet Understands the differences implicit in accompanying choirs, instrumentalist, soloist and congregational singing Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other staff and congregants as needed Dependable, responsible, responsive, punctual, and arrives prepared for rehearsals & services Familiarity with basic technology used in planning and communication (Google Drive, email, Zoom, etc.
) The ability to also play guitar is not required, but is a plus! Compensation Compensation for Wednesday night rehearsals is $40/hr. The weekly hours for this position may vary depending on holidays and other special events/services, but will typically be 1.5 hours per week. Compensation for Sunday services is $120/service. This position is for TWO Sundays a month (2nd and 4th Sundays) when the choir is also present for service. Services are typically just over an hour. There is an additional rehearsal with the choir from 9-9:45a. This is a contract position. Music Ministry at Summit UU Fellowship The music ministry is an integral part of Summit transformative work. Please include "Accompanist" in the subject line. 2. If we decide to move forward with the audition process, you will be invited to audition for a small group. You'll be asked to play selections from our hymnals, as well as a prepared piece of your choice. 3. Final round applicants will be invited to a paid audition that will include accompanying one Wednesday evening choir rehearsal, and a Sunday service for which compensation will be $150. We intend to interview qualified candidates on a rolling basis as applications are received and hope to have the position filled by September 1.
