JOB SUMMARY

The Contemporary Worship Band Leader (praise band leader) will help lead the band and the congregation in worship during the (10:30 AM) contemporary service on Sunday mornings and special services throughout the year. Our contemporary service provides an informal environment with accessible language to inspire worship and transform hearts with the Word of God. They will lead the band by collaborating with the pastor and organizing the volunteers and music.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Music Leadership Play and/or sing in the band. Recruit, schedule and supervise other band members (2-3 additional volunteers). Organize and lead rehearsal. Ensure that the materials needed are available, including set lists, chord/lyric sheets and more. Planning and Administration Collaborate with the pastor to plan worship services. Help select theologically sound and relevant music that supports the theme and focus of the day. Attend monthly Worship Committee meetings. Create, edit, and maintain slides projected for the congregation during worship. Set up, take down and care for church-owned instruments and equipment (microphones, cables, etc.). Adhere to the best practices regarding copyright usage and reporting. Perform other duties related to this position. Secure a substitute for those services for which you are unable to play.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A

commitment to faith in God and an excitement about sharing that faith with others. Skilled as a musician in one or more of the following: singing, keyboard, guitar; other: bass, percussion. Experience leading worship with a band with an enthusiastic, engaging presence when leading worship. Familiarity with current Christian worship music and if possible; the ELCA's book of worship, the Evangelical Lutheran book of Worship (ELW). Organizational and leadership skills. Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's theology. Support the vision, mission, and values of Grace Lutheran Church. Experience in using Microsoft Office; especially PowerPoint. Must successfully pass a child abuse and criminal background check and any other pre-employment screening. Must be reliable and able to work weekends, holidays and occasional weeknights.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment with the assistance of dollies. Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing and handling of materials.
