COLLABORATIVE PIANIST

Job Description

Garden Community Church, located in the Twin Cities, East Metro area, is a progressive Christian Church, a merger of two Christian denominations, Presbyterian and United Church of Christ. We are seeking a Collaborative Pianist to provide musical accompaniment for worship services, rehearsals, and special events.
Position:
Collaborative Pianist Part-Time:
5-7 hrs/week Reports to:
Director of Music Salary:
$206/week
Key Responsibilities Worship Accompaniment:
Play the piano for Sunday services, including preludes, offertories, postludes, congregational hymns, and accompanying choir and special musical offerings.
Choral Rehearsals:
Accompany weekly evening choir rehearsals.
Special Services:
Provide music for seasonal celebrations such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Easter, as well as first right of refusal for occasional weddings or memorial services. (Additional pay for weddings/memorial services)
Collaboration:
Work with the Director of Music, clergy, Office Admin, Pastor, Worship Team and volunteer musicians to plan and execute dynamic musical selections.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Piano Proficiency:
High level of proficiency on the piano, including excellent sight-reading and score-reading skills.
Choral accompaniment experience:
skilled at following director's cues.
Stylistic Versatility:
Ability to play and adapt to various genres, from traditional hymns and classical to gospel and contemporary music.
Interpersonal Skills:
Strong communication skills and a reliable, patient, and collaborative demeanor when working with volunteer choirs and church staff.
Preferred:
Improvisation:
Capability to improvise, transpose keys on the fly, and play from lead sheets. Proficiency in organ playing Willingness to share other musical skills/gifts. Time Requirements Weekly Sunday morning rehearsal and worship service. Currently there is one service at 10:15am and choir rehearsal at 9:30 am. Weekly Wednesday evening choir rehearsal from 7:00-8:30pm. Additional rehearsals as needed with soloists, ensembles and special services. Personal practice and preparation, either at home or at church. Application Instructions Submit resume and letter of interest to: Please share links/recordings of recent performances.
