Job Summary We are seeking a passionate Church Organist/Accompanist to enrich our worship services through exceptional musical leadership. This role involves performing on the church's pipe organ and piano, accompanying congregational singing, and collaborating with choir members, soloists, and instrumentalists. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of liturgical music, a flair for musical improvisation, and the ability to create an uplifting spiritual atmosphere through their artistry. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to serve our congregation while showcasing your musical talents across a variety of sacred and community settings. Responsibilities Play organ/piano during regular and special worship services Select music for preludes, offertories, and postludes Accompany the choir at the mid-week rehearsals and on Sunday mornings Rehearse with and accompany soloists and special musicians as needed Assist in recruiting new members for the music ministry Maintain the organ and all church pianos, including regularly scheduled tuning. Inform the Trustees and Music Director of any needed repairs for the church instruments. Play, operate, and maintain the carillon. This includes loading season-appropriate music, adding new selections from time to time, backing up the music libraries, and informing the Trustees of the need for any maintenance. Provide substitute musicians who will play in your absence, with approval from the Music Director. Sufficiently rehearse, in order to provide a high-quality of music Assist the Music Director, Senior Minister, and the Associate Minister in the planning of worship services Other worship-related responsibilities, as determined by the Music Director and/or the Minister(s) Receive the first right of refusal to play for all additional services, including weddings and memorial services Assist in selecting hymns relevant to the sermon series and/or liturgical season on a weekly basis Requirements/Qualifications Proven experience in religious music performance, including hymn music and liturgical settings. Demonstrated proficiency in organ playing, piano, and other musical instruments relevant to church services. Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) musical liturgical traditions across various faiths or denominations. Ability to read sheet music fluently and adapt arrangements through musical improvisation or composition as needed. Experience in music performance with a versatile repertoire spanning multiple genres and styles.
