CAPITAL CITY CHURCH WORSHIP LEADER JOB DESCRIPTION REPORTS TO
Creative Arts Director TYPE Part-Time with Potential for Full Time TEAM Band Volunteers, Sound/AV Volunteers
LOCATION
Columbus/Lockbourne, Ohio
ABOUT THE ROLE
Capital City Church is looking for a Worship Leader to help shape the sound and spirit of our gatherings. This person will plan and lead worship sets, build and shepherd a team of musicians and AV/sound volunteers, and cultivate a culture where people feel welcomed, valued, and inspired to grow. We're looking for someone who loves the craft of music as much as they love investing in people — especially raising up the next generation of leaders.
RESPONSIBILITIES
— Help plan and build worship sets that serve the flow and focus of each service. — Recruit, schedule, and coordinate volunteer teams for both band and sound/AV. — Lead rehearsals that are life-giving, musically excellent, and spiritually grounded. — Foster a team culture that encourages people while inviting them toward excellence. — Identify, mentor, and develop emerging leaders — with a special heart for younger musicians and vocalists. — Partner with pastoral leadership on song selection, service flow, and creative direction. — Care for the spiritual health of the team alongside its musical growth. — Stay open to feedback from leadership as a shared part of growing the ministry together.
REQUIREMENTS
MUSICAL — Proficient on at least one instrument (guitar, keys, drums, bass, etc.) and/or strong vocal ability. — Solid understanding of music theory and song structure. — Ability to craft arrangements that flow naturally and serve the moment, not just replicate a recording. — Comfortable leading from an instrument while directing a live band.
LEADERSHIP & CHARACTER
— A heart for developing others — you find joy in helping people grow, not just filling a role. — Open to feedback and coaching, able to take it in stride, knowing it's meant to help the ministry (and you) flourish. — A clear, caring communicator who can schedule, coordinate, and shepherd volunteers across two teams (band and sound/AV). — Self-aware and emotionally healthy, leading out of who you are rather than what you produce. — Collaborative and easy to work with — glad to hold ideas loosely in service of the bigger vision.
SPIRITUAL
— A growing, personal relationship with Jesus that shapes how you lead, not just what you play. — Alignment with Capital City Church's mission, values, and doctrine.
PREFERRED
(NICE TO HAVE) — Experience with production/AV signal flow basics (enough to troubleshoot with the sound team). — Familiarity with a broad range of worship and musical influences beyond standard CCM. — Prior experience leading or co-leading a team, whether in ministry or another setting. — Ability to create engaging social media content.
