General Position Summary:
The Assistant Organist is responsible for playing for 3 weekend Masses total: two with cantor and one accompanying the Parish Choir. Assistant will also accompany two Thursday evening rehearsals, one for the Parish Choir and one for the Children's Choir, as well as one monthly Mass for the Children's Choir. Assistant will also play on Holy Days and Solemnities throughout the year as well as act as Substitute Organist during scheduled absences of the Director. Assistant will also carry out various administrative tasks, including printed music preparation, weekly liturgy guide preparation, and music license reporting. Weddings and funerals are available for an additional stipend.
Principal Accountabilities:
Accompanies St. Cecilia Choir (Sunday 11:00 a.m. Mass, Thursday evening rehearsals mid-August to May) Accompanies Children's Choir (one monthly Sunday 9:00 a.m. Mass, Thursday evening rehearsals September to May) Organist for 2 other Sunday Masses (1:00pm & 5:00pm) and Holy Days of Obligation as scheduled; to include organ voluntaries of the highest quality and performance standard Assist with administrative tasks including music preparation, liturgy guide preparation and printing, cantor schedule, and music license reporting. This position works in a church environment and is subject to flexible weekdays and busy weekends.

Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Music/Organ required. In lieu of academic degree, American Guild of Organists certification SPC or CAGO required. Master's degree or in progress, or certification AAGO, preferred. At least one year of experience playing regular church services in a liturgical style preferred.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
Knowledge of Catholic sacraments, rites, and liturgies Knowledge of the Catholic Church including an in-depth familiarity with its structures, functions, and institutions Proficient in conversing, reading and writing in English. Familiarity with music editing software, Canva, and Signup Genius Ability to carry out multiple tasks, complete tasks per established guidelines, and meet deadlines Ability to effectively manage group dynamics as well as interpersonal relationships to yield positive outcomes Ability to effectively lead and coordinate the work activities of other staff or volunteers Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time-management techniques
