Description The Product Support Manager is responsible for directing and managing the day-to-day operation of the dealership's service repair shops and related warehouse/parts sales operations for diagnosing and repairing Caterpillar and allied heavy equipment. In addition, this position is responsible for directing and managing the overall operations of the location's rental services branch, including equipment rentals and the sale of new and used construction equipment and consumable contractor supplies and accessories.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
Manage and supervise the function of the Service Clerk, Service Planner, Service Supervisors, and other designated support/technician staff to ensure that all service administration and repair operations are executed at a consistently high level of quality and customer satisfaction and in compliance with all related regulatory requirements. Hire, train, and evaluate performance; prepare and administer disciplinary actions; prepare staffing schedules and assignments; plan and facilitate employee training and development to ensure the team develops the necessary skills to achieve maximum results. Additionally, manage and supervise the Rental Counter/Inside Sales Associates, Administrative Assistant, and Delivery Drivers for the location's rental services branch, ensuring rental counter sales, transportation/delivery, and related administrative operations are executed at the same high standard of quality, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. Achieve product support-related and rental branch financial performance and profitability goals set by management. Provide input and assist in the development and management of the budget(s) and related fiscal forecasting and planning activities for both the product support operation and the rental branch. Review and approve all facility-related purchases to ensure compliance with established company policies, procedures, and budget standards. Direct the execution of timely and accurate invoice processing, employee time posting, inventory orders, quotes, and customer commitments/follow-up across both product support and rental operations. Oversee and administer the determination of related customer warranty and goodwill decisions. Investigate and resolve customer service satisfaction issues. Direct and oversee the maintenance and safeguarding of the physical property and all related inventories and capital assets, including rental fleet equipment, to ensure that all established safety and environmental regulatory standards and related records are properly maintained. Take corrective action to assure efficient and economical material utilization, improve processes, and eliminate wasteful practices. Engage personnel to inspire and embed an overall culture of safety across both the product support shop and the rental branch. Administer and enforce high standards for housekeeping and safe work practices. Maintain vigilant oversight of all related transportation activities (field service dispatch and rental delivery/ hauling) to ensure efficiency and compliance with all related federal, state, and local regulations (DOT, FMCSA). Facilitate activities to improve coordination and communication between transportation and other branches and departments within the company. Support and enable the performance of the outside sales professionals driving the sale of product support services (parts, service, and rebuilds) as well as rental services and compact construction equipment, to achieve sales growth and profitability goals for both lines of business. Partner with same to build and fortify profitable customer relationships. Facilitate activities to improve coordination and communication between all departments and branches across the company. Cultivate positive relationships with the company's suppliers, vendors and carriers; conduct pricing and performance reviews in order to identify service improvement opportunities and to manage costs. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent required . Associate or higher-level degree from an accredited institution in business administration, operations management, or a related technical/mechanical field preferred. Minimum 8-10 years of work experience in equipment service operations, branch operations management and/or parts/logistics management, preferably within a heavy equipment dealership, rental company, or high-volume service environment. Therein, a minimum of 4-6 years of leadership experience involving dedicated responsibility for people and financial P&L management required . Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and dedicated experience using dealer management information systems preferred (DBS and/or Rental Man). Refined customer relations (written, verbal, analytical, negotiation and interpersonal communication skills). A refined "hands-on" leadership style, which is motivating and optimizes team effectiveness across multiple functional teams. Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and management and mentor those who report through the position. Ability to resolve customer service conflicts with professionalism and consistent application of company policy. Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and effectively delegate in a fast-paced, detail- and deadline- oriented environment across concurrent business lines.
