Job Description

Turn celebrations, connections, and opportunities into unforgettable experiences. The George Washington, a Wyndham Grand Hotel is looking for a Sales & Catering Manager who loves people, thrives on relationships, and gets excited about bringing great events to life. We're a historic, award-winning hotel in the heart of downtown Winchester, Virginia—where historic charm meets modern hospitality. From weddings and rehearsal dinners to corporate meetings, social celebrations, and group stays, there is always something happening at The GW. If you're the person who can walk into a room, make people feel welcome, uncover what they really need, and turn an idea into a successful event, we'd love to meet you! What You'll Do As our Sales & Catering Manager, you'll be at the center of our group, event, and catering business. You'll build relationships, generate new business, and work closely with our clients to make their vision a reality.
Your days may include:
Building and maintaining strong relationships with corporate clients, wedding couples, social groups, tour operators, community organizations, and local businesses. Proactively seeking new business opportunities through networking, prospecting, referrals, community involvement, and creative sales efforts. Selling guest rooms, meeting space, event space, food & beverage, and catering services. Planning and coordinating weddings, meetings, social events, reunions, celebrations, and other special occasions. Meeting with prospective clients, giving property tours, preparing proposals, and helping clients envision their event at The GW. Creating detailed event orders and ensuring all event details are communicated clearly to the appropriate hotel departments. Working closely with our Front Office, Food & Beverage, Banquet, Housekeeping, and other teams to ensure a seamless guest experience. Maintaining strong communication with clients from the first inquiry through the conclusion of their event. Following up after events to strengthen relationships, encourage repeat business, and generate referrals. Tracking sales activity, room blocks, event revenue, and business opportunities. Representing The George Washington at local business, tourism, wedding, and community events. Developing creative ways to showcase the hotel and attract new business. Helping make The George Washington a place people are excited to celebrate, meet, gather, and return to. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who is personable, polished, enthusiastic, and driven —someone who understands that hospitality is about much more than making a sale. You'll be a great fit if you: Enjoy meeting new people and building genuine relationships. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Are comfortable talking with everyone from a bride planning her dream wedding to a corporate executive planning a meeting. Are confident giving property tours and presenting ideas. Have strong organizational skills and can keep track of multiple events and deadlines at once. Are creative and enjoy finding solutions when a client has a unique request. Are comfortable asking for the business and following up. Have excellent attention to detail. Can work independently while also being an active member of the hotel team. Understand that a successful event is a team effort. Have a positive attitude and the ability to remain calm when things get busy. Are comfortable working occasional evenings, weekends, and special events when needed. Hotel, sales, catering, wedding, or event experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person who brings the right attitude, professionalism, and people skills. Why You'll Love Working Here At The George Washington, you're not selling just another hotel. You're selling a beautiful historic building, a walkable downtown destination, memorable celebrations, and experiences that people talk about long after they leave. You'll work alongside a team that genuinely cares about our guests and takes pride in creating a great experience. You'll have the opportunity to build relationships throughout the Winchester community while helping grow the hotel's business. And every day is different. One day you might be touring a couple through our ballroom for their wedding. The next, you could be meeting with a corporate client, planning a rehearsal dinner, welcoming a tour group, or brainstorming a new way to bring business to the hotel. If you love people, love hospitality, and love making things happen, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for. Come be part of The GW family. We're looking for someone who brings energy, professionalism, creativity, and a genuine love of hospitality. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!
