The Position The On-Call Front Desk Attendant / Member Services Representative provides exceptional customer service and helps support the daily operations of the PHCD Health & Fitness Center. This is an on-call position that provides coverage as needed for staff absences, vacations, special events, and other scheduling needs. The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, professional, and comfortable working with older adults in a health and fitness environment. This role is primarily focused on member service, front desk operations, facility support, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment .
Reports To:
PHCD Health & Fitness Center Director & Assistant Manager Key Responsibilities Greet members, prospective members, and guests in a friendly and professional manner. Provide exceptional customer service and help create a welcoming environment for all members. Check members into the facility using the Mindbody system. Answer and direct phone calls and respond to general questions about the Fitness Center. Assist prospective members with facility tours and basic membership information. Accept and process member payments as needed. Assist members with basic account updates and direct more complex concerns to the appropriate staff member. Respond to member questions and concerns in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. Monitor the Fitness Center and help ensure a safe environment for members. Provide basic guidance on Fitness Center policies, procedures, programs, and services. Assist members with basic questions regarding fitness equipment and refer exercise-specific questions to qualified fitness staff when appropriate. Complete regular facility walk-throughs and restroom checks. Assist with maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and appearance of the Fitness Center. Complete assigned opening, closing, cleaning, and daily operational tasks as needed. Assist with special programs, events, and Fitness Center activities when requested. Communicate important member concerns, incidents, or facility issues to the Fitness Center Director or appropriate staff member. Collaborate with the Fitness Center team to continuously improve the member experience. Provide additional coverage and operational support based on Fitness Center needs. Who You Are Friendly, approachable, and comfortable interacting with a wide variety of people. Passionate about providing excellent customer service. Comfortable working with and assisting older adults. Dependable and able to work independently when needed. Organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities during a shift. A clear and professional communicator, both verbally and in writing. Comfortable answering phones, assisting members, and learning computer-based systems. Willing to take initiative and help wherever needed. Able to remain calm, attentive, and professional when addressing member questions or concerns. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous customer service, front desk, hospitality, recreation, health club, or fitness center experience preferred. Experience working with older adults preferred. Interest or experience in health, fitness, recreation, or wellness is preferred. CPR/BLS and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification. Comfortable using computers and learning new software; experience with Mindbody is a plus. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with members, guests, and teammates. Ability to work an on-call and flexible schedule , including occasional early mornings, evenings, or Saturdays depending on Center needs. Schedule This is an on-call position with no guaranteed number of weekly hours . Shifts are offered based on staff coverage needs, vacations, absences, special programs, and Center operations. Candidates with flexibility and availability to accept shifts on short notice are preferred.
