Job Description

Primary Purpose:
\r\n\r\nThe Grain Merchandiser is responsible for developing and maintaining strong producer relationships while executing grain marketing and merchandising strategies that support the cooperative's growth and profitability.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThis position serves as a trusted resource to producers by providing market insight, contracting opportunities, and grain marketing solutions while actively originating grain and developing new business opportunities. The Grain Merchandiser monitors market conditions, manages commodity positions, assists with risk management activities, and works collaboratively with operations personnel to ensure successful execution of grain contracts and customer commitments.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of grain markets, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with producers, customers, and cooperative leadership.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
\r\n\r\nRisk Management & Hedging\r\n\r\n\r\n\tMonitor futures, basis, spreads, and market conditions to manage grain positions.\r\n\tAssist in developing and executing risk management strategies.\r\n\tMaintain awareness of market exposure and communicate risks to leadership.\r\n\tUtilize hedging tools and merchandising programs to support profitability and producer success.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nProducer Relationship Development\r\n\r\n\r\n\tBuild and maintain strong relationships with producers and customers.\r\n\tConduct producer visits and participate in industry events.\r\n\tProvide marketing alternatives and grain marketing education to producers.\r\n\tContract Administration\r\n\tPrepare, review, and maintain grain purchase and sales contracts.\r\n\tEnsure contracts are accurately executed and documented.\r\n\tMaintain contract files and assist with audit and compliance requirements.\r\n\tResolve contract discrepancies and customer concerns.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nMarket Intelligence\r\n\r\n\r\n\tProvide market commentary and recommendations to management and producers.\r\n\tIdentify opportunities to improve margins and expand market share.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nTechnology & Reporting\r\n\r\n\r\n\tUtilize grain accounting and merchandising software to manage positions and contracts.\r\n\tPrepare reports related to grain inventory, purchases, sales, and market exposure.\r\n\tMaintain accurate records and documentation.\r\n\tAll other duties as assigned.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPhysical Requirements/Working Conditions\r\n\r\nThe work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed in offices, work stations, fields, sites, stores and meeting rooms.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe position requires extreme temperatures, ability to climb ladders, inspect equipment, enter operation areas, lifting up to 50 lbs, extending hours during harvest, dust and noise exposure, outdoor/ag facility conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. Employment decisions will be made on the basis of each applicant's job qualifications, experience, and abilities \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nQualifications\r\n\r\n\r\n\tBachelor's degree in Agriculture, Business, Agricultural Economics, Finance, or related field preferred.\r\n\tMinimum of two (2) to five (5) years of experience in grain merchandising\r\n\tSouth Texas market preferred.\r\n\tGrossman experience, preferred, not required. \r\n\r\n
