Worden Williams LLP seeks an associate attorney with two to five years of experience to join its real estate practice. The firm has practiced in North County San Diego since 1975. The volume of real estate work it receives now exceeds what its attorneys are able to handle, and the associate hired will take that work over and develop it into an established practice. The Position . The work is principally transactional and includes purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, title and due diligence review, and the counseling of landlords on compliance matters. The firm has long handled unlawful detainer matters and intends to rebuild that portion of the practice, so trial work is available to an associate who wants it. Because the firm is small, the associate will have direct client contact from the outset and will deal directly with the brokers, escrow officers and title representatives who refer work to the firm. Qualifications. Applicants must be active members of the State Bar of California in good standing and must be prepared to appear in court. Two to five years of California practice is required, with substantive experience in real estate transactions, landlord-tenant matters, or civil litigation. Experience in all three is not expected. The position is in the firm's Solana Beach office, with flexibility for some remote work once the associate is established. Compensation and Benefits. The base salary range is $135,000 to $165,000, depending on experience, together with a discretionary bonus. The firm offers a group medical plan and contributes a monthly stipend toward the premium. It also provides paid time off, State Bar dues and continuing legal education. The firm provides a 401(k) plan with a firm contribution that vests immediately and is made whether or not the associate contributes. The position is on a partnership track, and the firm will state the timeline in writing at the time an offer is made. Hours. The firm does not impose an annual billable hour requirement, and it does not measure its attorneys against a quota. It does expect that an associate will bill not less than twenty hours in a normal week, which remains well below what most firms require. The expectation is stated here so that it is not left to speculation. Application . Send a resume and a brief note about your interest. A writing sample and references will be requested later in the process, and no reference will be contacted without your prior consent. Questions before applying are welcome and held in confidence; write to Tomer T. Gutman at tg@wordenwilliams.com. Worden Williams LLP is an equal opportunity employer. Applications are reviewed as received and the position will remain open until filled.
