Full Job Description Showroom Sales Advisor:
Fireplaces, Hot Tubs & Outdoor Furniture About this role: Heat 'N Sweep has been making living better for Greater Lansing families since 1977. We started as the first chimney sweep in Michigan, and over nearly fifty years we have grown into the region's destination for fireplaces, hot tubs, and luxury outdoor furniture. Heat 'N Sweep is now part of the Custom Built Design & Remodeling family, pairing a name people have trusted for generations with the team behind one of the most recognized design build firms in the area. We turn fifty in 2027, and we are building the sales team that carries us into the next fifty years. We are hiring a Sales Advisor to be the person customers meet when they walk through our showroom doors. Some come in knowing exactly what they want. Most come in with a feeling: they want the living room to be warmer, the backyard to be somewhere they actually spend time, or a place to unwind at the end of a long Michigan day. Your job is to listen, figure out what they are really after, and match them with something they will enjoy for years. This is an in person, showroom based role with a set weekly schedule. You will sell across all three of our product lines, work the leads that come into the store, and follow up with every customer until they have what they came for. You will also help grow the brand by appearing in short videos and working with our marketing team on content that answers the questions customers actually ask. You do not need hearth, spa, or furniture experience. We need a great salesperson, and we will teach you every product we carry. You do need a genuine love of home life. The best people for this role have a favorite spot by a fire, notice a great patio from the street, and already know what a perfect evening at home feels like. If that is you, and you can sell, we should talk regardless of what industry you are in today.
What this role is not:
there are no pressure scripts, no today only pricing, and no overselling. Our customers come back for their second and third purchases, and they send their neighbors. That trust took nearly fifty years to build, and it is the reason people walk through our door.
Our three product lines:
You will sell across three distinct lines. Each has its own customer, its own sales conversation, and its own season, which means there is always something in season to sell. Fireplaces. Gas, wood, and electric fireplaces, inserts, and stoves. This is where Heat 'N Sweep began, and it is still the heart of the business. Hearth customers need a knowledgeable guide on fuel type, venting, sizing, heat output, and installation, so this is the most technical of the three lines. Busiest from early fall through winter. Spas. Hot tubs (and saunas). Customers are buying a lifestyle as much as a product: evening soaks under the stars, family time, recovery, and a backyard they still use in January. You will walk them through models and features, site preparation, electrical requirements, delivery, and what ownership really looks like. Steady demand throughout the year. Casual Living. Luxury outdoor furniture (pool furniture, fire tables, and outdoor accessories). This is a design sale. You are helping someone picture how they will live outside, then choosing frames, fabrics, and layouts that look beautiful and stand up to Michigan weather. Planning and ordering begin in late winter, ahead of spring and summer.
Training and coaching:
Learning three product lines takes real time, and we invest in it. Every new advisor follows a structured coaching plan for each line that includes manufacturer product training, time shadowing experienced team members on the floor, practice sales conversations with your manager, and a product knowledge check off before you sell that line on your own. All training and coaching is paid and scheduled into your work week. Your first ninety days follow the selling calendar: Fireplaces first. You start during peak hearth season, so you learn our most technical line while the showroom is busiest and there are plenty of real conversations to learn from. Spas next. Once you are confident on hearth, you add hot tubs, building on what you already know about site requirements and installation. Casual Living before spring. You finish with outdoor furniture in time for the late winter planning and ordering season. Coaching does not stop at ninety days. Expect ongoing product updates, manufacturer trainings as new lines arrive, and regular one on one coaching with your manager.
What you will do:
Greet and serve showroom clients, uncovering what they want, how they will use it, their space, their budget, and their timeline Sell across fireplaces, spas, and casual living, and recognize when a client shopping one line would love another Respond promptly to phone, web, and walk in leads, and follow up consistently until every client has an answer Explain delivery, installation, site preparation, and ownership clearly so clients know exactly what happens and when Build clear quotes with transparent, upfront pricing Handle objections, negotiate, and close Partner with our delivery, installation, and service teams so every handoff is clean Keep the showroom sharp: displays current, pricing accurate, and products ready to demo Contribute to marketing by appearing in videos and sharing the questions clients ask most Track every lead and sale in our system and hit clearly defined activity and revenue targets Complete all scheduled training and coaching for each product line What we are looking for Required Sales experience with a track record of hitting or beating targets. The industry matters far less than the results. Experience guiding cleints through a considered purchase where the relationship mattered A real, demonstrable love of home, backyard, and outdoor living Comfortable talking about four and five figure purchases without flinching Clear, friendly, professional communication in person, on the phone, and in writing Comfortable on camera and willing to appear in short videos The discipline to follow up without someone chasing you Curiosity and the patience to learn three product lines in depth Availability for scheduled showroom hours, including evenings and Saturdays Helpful but not required Showroom, furniture, spa, hearth, appliance, or home improvement sales experience An eye for interior or outdoor living design An existing network in Greater Lansing CRM experience, ideally HubSpot Content creation experience of any kind, including social media, video, or writing Physical requirements Able to stand and walk the showroom floor for a full shift Able to lift and move furniture, cushions, and displays up to fifty pounds occasionally Able to travel locally for occasional customer site visits, with a valid driver's license Compensation and benefits Total earnings of $21 to $60 per hour.
Your pay has two parts:
a guaranteed base hourly rate, including training, plus 3% to 6% commission on what you sell. On a full time schedule, that works out to roughly $43,000 to $125,000 per year. Where you land in that range is up to you: how you work the floor, how consistently you follow up, and how well you learn all three lines. You earn commission from your very first sale, including during training.
Benefits include:
Health insurance with a significant employer contribution Dental and vision coverage Retirement plan with company match Paid time off Employee discount Paid training Schedule and location This is an in person role based at the Heat 'N Sweep showroom, 2041 W Grand River Ave, Okemos, MI 48864. You will work a set schedule on the showroom floor, built around store hours. Your schedule is posted in advance, and training and coaching sessions are scheduled within your working hours. Clients shop when they are off work, so evenings and Saturdays are part of the job, and our busiest weeks follow the season for each product line. Our hiring process We move quickly and we tell you where you stand at every step. Applications close Friday, September 18 Screening call , Monday, September 21 or Tuesday, September 22 In store interview at our Okemos showroom, Tuesday, September 29. We will walk the showroom together and ask you to pick a product and show us how you would introduce it to a customer. You are not expected to know the product. We want to see how you learn and how you connect. Final interview , Thursday, October 1 Offer , Monday, October 5 How to apply Submit your resume along with a brief note of interest covering two things: the best sale you have ever made and why it stuck with you, and your favorite place to relax at home, indoors or out, and what makes it work. Local candidates are strongly preferred. Heat 'N Sweep is an equal opportunity employer. All employment is at will, and this role may evolve as business needs change.
