Job Description

Public Works Crew Member Village of Winneconne, Wisconsin Full-Time | $18.18-$21.26 per hour Monday-Friday | 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The Village of Winneconne is seeking a dependable, hardworking individual to join our Public Works team as a Public Works Crew Member. This is an entry-level, hands-on position focused primarily on parks, grounds maintenance, public spaces, facility support, seasonal work, and assisting with broader Public Works operations. Prior municipal experience, technical certifications, or a Commercial Driver License are not required . We are looking for someone who shows up on time, works safely, takes direction well, is willing to learn, and takes pride in helping keep the community clean, safe, and well maintained.
Compensation and Schedule Starting pay:
$18.18-$21.26 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
Employment:
Full-time Regular schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Overtime and additional hours may be required for snow and ice operations, storms, special events, emergencies, or other operational needs Evening, weekend, and holiday work may occasionally be required What You'll Do This position performs a variety of physical, outdoor, and facility-related work throughout the year.
Typical responsibilities include:
Mowing grass using commercial riding and walk-behind mowers String trimming, edging, weed control, leaf cleanup, and landscape maintenance Collecting garbage and recyclables from parks, downtown areas, boat landings, cemeteries, and other Village properties Cleaning and maintaining park shelters, public restrooms, playgrounds, athletic areas, trails, and other public spaces Assisting with brush collection, tree trimming, chipping, storm cleanup, and seasonal grounds work Preparing shelters and public areas for rentals, events, and community activities Cleaning and maintaining Village buildings, shop areas, storage spaces, and public facilities Performing basic painting, housekeeping, minor repairs, and routine facility maintenance Loading, unloading, moving, and staging materials, equipment, signs, barricades, and supplies Assisting Public Works Operators with street, stormwater, utility, construction, and maintenance projects Supporting cemetery operations, community events, flood response, storm cleanup, and other departmental activities Shoveling and snow blowing sidewalks, entrances, crosswalks, trails, and other pedestrian areas during winter operations Operating approved equipment after receiving appropriate training and authorization What We're Looking For The strongest candidate will be someone who is: Dependable and punctual Comfortable performing physical work Able to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow, and other changing conditions Able to follow verbal and written instructions Safety-conscious Willing to learn Comfortable working as part of a team Respectful and professional when interacting with residents and the public Able to complete assigned work with attention to detail and care Minimum Qualifications Valid Wisconsin driver's license and an acceptable driving record Ability to safely perform physically demanding work Ability to understand and follow basic verbal and written instructions Ability to reliably report to work and assigned emergency call-outs Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to approximately 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, construction, agriculture, manufacturing, warehousing, custodial work, snow removal, or similar hands-on work is helpful, but not required . No CDL or Public Works Experience Required A Commercial Driver License is not required to be hired into this position . The Village will provide task-specific training, safety instruction, and on-the-job training appropriate to the work assigned.
A Typical Year Spring:
Park opening, cleanup, mowing preparation, landscaping, brush collection, storm cleanup, and facility preparation.
Summer:
Grass cutting, trimming, garbage collection, park and restroom maintenance, boat landing support, community events, and general grounds work.
Fall:
Leaf cleanup, brush and chipping work, facility transition, grounds cleanup, and winter preparation.
Winter:
Snow blowing, shoveling, facility cleaning, shop organization, equipment support, and other seasonal Public Works activities. Employees regularly walk, stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, lift, and carry materials. Work may occur around traffic, moving equipment, power tools, refuse, dust, noise, uneven terrain, heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice. Required personal protective equipment must be worn.
