This role ensures food safety, guest experience, cleanliness, and operational standards are met while serving as the on-duty leader when management is not present. The Shift Leader provides direction, support, and leadership to team members to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient shop operations. Key Responsibilities Shift Leadership & Operations Act as the on-duty leader responsible for shop operations during assigned shifts. Ensure consistent execution of Krispy Kreme brand standards, recipes, and operating procedures. Assign tasks, manage workflow, and provide direction to team members. Monitor production, service flow, and staffing levels throughout the shift. Address operational issues and escalate concerns to management as appropriate. Guest Experience Ensure a friendly, welcoming, and consistent guest experience. Assist team members with guest service and resolve guest concerns professionally. Reinforce service standards, accuracy, and speed of service expectations. Food Safety, Quality & Compliance Serve as the designated Person in Charge (PIC) for food safety during the shift when required. Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations. Monitor food temperatures, holding times, cleanliness, and proper food handling practices. Take corrective action when food safety or quality standards are not met. Team Support & Development Train and coach team members on job duties, safety, and operational standards. Model professionalism, teamwork, and positive leadership behaviors. Support performance expectations and reinforce company policies. Cash Handling & Security Follow and support cash handling procedures, including register oversight and shift change processes as assigned. Ensure adherence to safety, security, and loss prevention procedures. Protect company assets and confidential information. Cleaning & Facility Standards Ensure shop cleanliness and organization throughout the shift, including production areas, guest areas, restrooms, and exterior spaces. Perform and assign cleaning tasks including, but not limited to, wiping and sanitizing surfaces, sweeping and mopping floors, restocking service areas, removing trash, cleaning restrooms as assigned, and any other cleaning or side work tasks assigned by management . Physical Requirements & Work EnvironmentPhysical Activity Standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and grasping. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects. Working in production and guest-facing areas. Communicating with team members, guests, and management. Use of POS systems, production equipment, and other shop technology, as permitted by applicable state age requirements. Physical Requirements Standing and walking for extended periods during the shift.
Lifting and carrying ranges:
0-10 lbs: Frequent 11-25 lbs: Occasional to Frequent 26-50 lbs: Occasional with assistance 51-75 lbs: Seldom; team-lift only Pushing and pulling approximately 10-40 lbs of force occasionally. Frequent use of hands for repetitive tasks and equipment operation. Work Environment Work performed in shop production, service, and support areas. Exposure to heat (production areas), noise, wet or slippery surfaces, and cleaning chemicals. Variable schedules including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. Cognitive Demands (ADA/FEHA-Compliant) Ability to maintain awareness of shop operations and priorities. Ability to make timely decisions and address issues during the shift. Ability to follow and enforce food safety and operational procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Ability to manage normal workplace stress. Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance. Requirements Previous food service, retail, or hospitality experience required; leadership experience preferred. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices required; food safety certification preferred or required per local regulations. Ability to lead and direct team members during a shift. Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
