Specialty Sports Retail Manager - (FTYR)

Job Description

Job Summary The Specialty Sports Retail Manager is responsible for optimizing retail sales, profitability, inventory performance, and guest service within the snow sport shop and related retail locations. This position oversees daily shop operations, manages retail staff, coordinates shop services, and leads the planning, purchasing, pricing, marketing and merchandising of specialty sports inventory for Crystal Mountain. Job Duties and Responsibilities Oversee daily ski shop operations, ensuring exceptional guest service and operational excellence. Develop and implement sales, merchandising, and promotional strategies to achieve revenue and profitability goals. Collaborate with the Vice President of Retail and Wellness to plan, purchase, and manage snow sports and sporting goods retail inventory. Routinely monitor and report inventory levels, conduct audits, oversee special orders, and maintain effective inventory controls and loss prevention practices. Analyze sales, inventory turn ratios, and financial performance; assist with budgeting and implement plans to achieve business objectives. Recruit, train, coach, and develop team members while fostering a positive, guest-focused culture. Educate staff on product knowledge, sales techniques, equipment, apparel, accessories, and shop services, including leveraging vendor relationships to support a high-performance retail environment. Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, Snow Sports Instructional Staff, Ski Patrol, race teams, ski clubs, and other key stakeholders. Collaborate with Rental operations to leverage best pricing and technical equipment servicing. Support e-commerce operations, ensuring alignment between online and in-store inventory and sales efforts. Partner with marketing teams to execute promotions, events, social media initiatives, and community engagement activities. Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and visually compelling retail environment. Maintain a clean, safe, organized, product storage environment. Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications Competencies:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills. Expert knowledge of snow sports equipment and sporting goods products. Advanced level user of snow sports and related sporting goods merchandise. Proficiency with retail POS systems, inventory software, and Microsoft Office applications.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. Industry certifications - e.g. boot fitting, safe ski and snowboard equipment preparation and tuning. Retail management experience, preferably in snow sports, outdoor recreation, sporting goods, or resort environments. Experience with merchandising, inventory management, budgeting, and sales analysis. Experience managing inventory, merchandising, and staff scheduling.
Physical & Other Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors for events or business needs as required. Avid enthusiast in snow sports and other outdoor recreation areas, including golf. Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Must regularly lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Evenings, weekends, and holidays are a regular part of the schedule. Occasional travel required for industry events. Non-smoking candidates preferred.
