Job Description

Position Summary The Assistant Manager supports day-to-day store operations while delivering friendly, honest, and focused customer service. This role assists the Store Manager in supervising staff, driving sales, maintaining operational standards, and ensuring compliance with company policies. The Assistant Manager serves as a leader, role model, and problem solver while helping maintain a clean, well-organized, and profitable store environment. Key Responsibilities Store Operations & Leadership Assume responsibility for overall store operations in the absence of the Store Manager Lead store team through daily supervision, training, coaching, and constructive feedback Motivate, encourage, and challenge employees to work toward shared goals Creates store schedule Serve as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a positive attitude Assist with store meetings and employee training sessions as needed Maintain strong communication with the Store Manager and General C-Store Manager Staffing & Training Recruit, interview, hire, train, and coach current and future store employees Assist in completing and maintaining training packets for all new hires Ensure completion of monthly training requirements for self and staff Train employees on: Proper cash handling procedures Pump authorizations Add-on sales techniques to increase customer value FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory practices Cleaning and operation of all store and deli equipment Customer Service Deliver excellent customer service and ensure prompt, courteous service at all times Promote and resolve customer complaints in a timely and professional manner Ensure store environment reflects a high-quality brand image Sales, Merchandising & Inventory Assist in increasing sales through innovative ideas and effective merchandising Ensure merchandise is fully stocked, attractively displayed, correctly priced, and safely presented Implement and enforce merchandising and vendor policies and procedures Implement monthly and weekly promotions and ensure all POS signage is properly posted on time Communicate and perform price changes, promotions, and markdowns/ups as requested (e.g., Pepsi, Coke, tobacco) Ensure staff follows FIFO inventory methods for retail and food items Financial Controls & Reporting Monitor daily cash over/shorts, inventory shrinkage, and drive-offs Assist Store Manager in monitoring profits and controllable expenses, including: Labor costs Inventory levels Cash and inventory shortages Complete all required daily paperwork and computer entries accurately and on time Review and understand daily and monthly store operation reports, including deli, tobacco, and lottery counts Food Service & Safety Compliance Work closely with the Food Service Lead (if applicable) to maintain kitchen standards Conduct frequent inspections of work, storage, and service areas to ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and operational regulations Meet regularly with the Food Service Lead throughout the day Fully understand and update PAWS charts and IGNG website information Physical & Scheduling Requirements Ability to perform all duties of a store cashier Ability to walk and stand for up to 100% of the shift Ability to lift, carry, or push up to 35 pounds Ability to work in heated and freezer environments for stocking purposes Ability to travel to meetings away from the store location as required Must be flexible to work opening, closing, mid-shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays Strong attention to detail Excellent customer service skills Strong work ethic and integrity Proven attendance record Ability to motivate others and work toward common objectives Previous retail experience preferred but not required High school diploma or equivalent required
