Schedule:
Full-time, Monday through Friday This Is a Manager Position—Not a Manager-in-Training Position If you already know how to lead a successful independent auto repair shop, develop a team, manage workflow, and keep both customers and employees informed, we want to talk to you. AM-PM Automotive Repair is looking for an experienced Automotive Repair Shop Manager who can take ownership of the shop's daily operations and help the business continue moving forward. We are not looking for someone who wants to become a manager someday. We need someone who has already spent at least one to two years managing an independent automotive repair shop and understands what it takes to keep the front counter, technicians, workflow, customers, and numbers working together. You should be able to walk into a busy shop, understand what is happening, establish priorities, hold people accountable, solve problems, and keep the day moving without waiting for the owners to make every decision. About AM-PM Automotive Repair AM-PM Automotive Repair is a family-owned and operated independent repair shop that has served White Bear Lake and the surrounding communities since 1983. For more than 40 years, we have built our reputation around honest communication, quality repairs, ethical business practices, and doing what is right for our customers. We were named the 2022 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics winner and were also a finalist in 2013. We service domestic, foreign, diesel, and hybrid vehicles and are supported by experienced, manufacturer-trained, ASE-certified technicians. We live here, we love it here, and we hope it shows in how we take care of our customers and our community. What You'll Be Responsible For As the Shop Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day performance of the business and make sure the team has the direction, communication, and accountability needed to succeed.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading, supporting, and holding the shop team accountable Managing the shop's daily workflow from vehicle check-in through completion and delivery Making sure work is dispatched appropriately and technicians remain productive Overseeing service advising, estimates, customer communication, approvals, and follow-up Keeping customers informed and handling difficult conversations calmly and professionally Monitoring sales, gross profit, labor productivity, average repair order, close rate, and other important shop numbers Identifying problems early and taking responsibility for resolving them Coaching employees and helping each team member improve Making sure established systems and processes are consistently followed Improving processes when a better approach is needed Helping recruit, onboard, train, and retain strong employees Maintaining a professional, organized, and positive work environment Working closely with ownership on staffing, performance, growth, and major business decisions Protecting the reputation and relationships AM-PM has built within the community This is a hands-on leadership position. You will not be expected to perform every task yourself, but you must understand the entire operation well enough to step in, provide direction, and make sound decisions when needed. What We Need From You At least one to two years of successful management experience at an independent automotive repair shop Previous automotive service advising experience A strong understanding of repair orders, estimating, parts, labor, dispatching, scheduling, and shop workflow Experience managing technicians, advisors, and support staff Experience tracking and improving shop performance numbers The ability to lead with both accountability and respect Strong customer-service, communication, and conflict-resolution skills The confidence to make decisions and take responsibility for the outcome Excellent organization and attention to detail A stable and verifiable employment history Comfort using automotive shop-management software and digital systems A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record High integrity and a genuine commitment to doing right by customers and employees You May Be a
Strong Fit If You:
Have already managed a successful independent repair shop and can discuss the results you helped produce Understand that strong sales come from trust, communication, proper inspections, and quality recommendations Know how to keep a shop productive without creating unnecessary chaos Can hold a team accountable without talking down to people Notice problems and address them instead of waiting for the owner to intervene Care about employee development, customer retention, and long-term business health Want enough authority to lead and are comfortable being accountable for the results Prefer a respected, community-based independent shop over a corporate dealership environment Compensation This position offers $70,000-$120,000 in expected annual compensation, depending on experience and performance. Compensation may include a competitive guaranteed salary along with performance-based incentives connected to the overall health of the business, including shop performance, customer experience, workflow, profitability, and team development. We want our manager to be rewarded for building a healthy, successful shop—not simply for pushing sales at the expense of customers or employees. Why Join AM-PM Automotive Repair? Established, family-owned independent repair shop Serving White Bear Lake and the surrounding area since 1983 Monday-through-Friday schedule No dealership politics or corporate management structure A strong existing reputation in the community Experienced, ASE-certified technicians Domestic, foreign, diesel, and hybrid repair A business recognized for ethics and honest customer care The opportunity to have a meaningful voice in how the shop operates and grows Performance-based earning potential for a manager who produces results How to Apply Most people who have worked around an auto repair shop are not ready to manage one. We are looking for someone who already understands the responsibility that comes with leading the people, customers, workflow, and financial performance of an independent shop. When applying, please include specific information about the shop or shops you have managed, the size of the teams you led, and the results you helped produce.
