Position Summary:
The Director of Retail provides leadership and daily management to DGR departments including all retail stores and retail store managers, eCommerce and New Goods. The Director will have demonstrated success in driving retail sales performance, establishing and achieving sales budget benchmarks, merchandising, multi-unit operations, new goods and inventory management. This position also supervises Managers in Training and leads all training initiatives throughout the retail department. The Director ensures safe, efficient, and compliant support of organizational operations. This role leads teams, manages assets, drives operational improvements, and ensures alignment with Goodwill's mission and core value s.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety is priority one. This position, working closely with all departments, is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment. Develops and implements strategies, action plans, staffing, and procedures to optimize processing and maximize the monetizing of donated goods. In Partnership with the Vice President of Operations, will work to transform stores into welcoming/attractive centers, filled with a regular supply of high-quality product merchandised well and priced aggressively to drive overall sales growth. Working together with the New Goods Manager, will lead all new goods associates, inventory management and overall operations in new goods. Will ensure accurate accounting of all new goods, sales transit, locations, damages and shrink. Working together with the eCommerce Manager, will lead all ecommerce associates and overall operations in ecommerce. Will work to train and promote the online sales engine to increasingly grow our online sales revenue. Demonstrates leadership by holding team members accountable for established best practices and standard operating procedures. Will work with the Vice President of Operations to generate and report on sales, forecasts and budget comparisons. Will execute strategy for retail stores, ecommerce and new goods operations. Will work closely with Director of Training to ensure all retail employees are up to date on all required trainings and will work to set and execute strategy and expectations for new and future training opportunities for retail staff. Will ensure managers hire and cross-train team members to meet retail goals and support associate development. Plan and facilitate regular meetings with team leaders. In partnership with the Sr. Manager, Operations will identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Will partner with Sr. Manager, Operations and act as lead retail manager charged with setting up new stores after renovation or build out. Ensure compliance with CARF requirements, Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA), safety, and security regulations of retail employees and locations, in partnership with Safety and Compliance Manager. Will work with Safety and Compliance Manager and HR on all investigations in assigned areas. Support other locations and perform additional duties as assigned by Vice President of Operations.
Education:
Relevant bachelor's degree required from accredited instuition.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum three years multi-unit retail store management experience required. Strong leadership and employee development skills. Knowledge of production planning, workflow management, and inventory control. Ability to prioritize multiple operational demands while meeting deadlines. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and operational reporting systems. Ability to analyze production data and identify opportunities for improvement. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across multiple departments.
Additional Requirements:
Supports the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries. Demonstrates ethical leadership and professionalism in all activities. Maintains a valid driver's license. Open availability. Supervisory experience in retail with demonstrated success in sales growth and merchandising in a multi-unit setting. Working knowledge of logistics, inventory management, shipping, receiving, and supply chain processes. Promotes a safe work environment and complies with all CARF requirements. Administration and organizational safety requirements. Ability to successfully complete all required background screenings and drug testing.
Physical Requirements:
Works in an environment with moderate to high activity levels, stress and occasional deadline pressures. Frequently stands and walks throughout the workday. Routinely bends, stoops, pushes, pulls, reaches, twists, and lifts merchandise. Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds or is able to do so safely with assistance when appropriate. Works in retail and production environments with varying temperatures.
Travel:
Frequent travel required to all locations. Some travel for meetings, conferences and/or trainings may be required.
