Position Overview:
The Director of Retail leads the retail team and provides oversight and creative operational solutions for the Park Stores, warehouse, web store, and employee housing. This position also develops the vision for a growing retail operation and implements strategies that will result in improved profitability, efficiency, and visitor experience. The seasonal nature of Glacier National Park creates distinct annual cycles of planning and high-volume operations. The retail team works together very closely, particularly during the busy summer season. The Director of Retail plays a critical role in leading the team and maximizing retail operations to support the Conservancy's mission to preserve and protect Glacier National Park. Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities):
OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT
•40% Manage all aspects of retail operations and implement best practices for the Park Stores, warehouse, buying and merchandising, and eCommerce Ensure the accuracy of retail accounting, including receiving, invoice matching, and daily sales accounting Coordinate facilities and fleet management, including workforce housing, with the Warehouse and Facilities Manager Oversee the management of the Point-of-Sale system, inventory databases, and other hardware and software needed to optimize data integrity and efficiency Work with the Associate Director of People and Culture to ensure high standards for seasonal hiring, onboarding and training, and customer service. Ensure that the products offered meet the requirements of the Cooperative Agreement and are selected based on quality, interpretive value, connection to natural and cultural resources, and environmental sustainability Work in collaboration with NPS staff to plan for Visitor Center operations and adjust Park Store operations as needed Respond promptly and adapt operations to changing circumstances during the busy summer season
REPORTING AND BUDGETING
•30% Develop comprehensive retail sales and operating budget in collaboration with the Director of Finance Establish annual sales goals, margin expectations, and Open to Buy plan Anticipate capital expenditure needs as part of the annual budget process Forecast year-end sales and on-hand inventory Assist the Director of Finance with cashflow planning and monthly reporting Report inventory values at each location for insurance purposes Prepare and present retail reports and strategic updates to the Board of Directors
LEADERSHIP
•15% Serve on the Conservancy's Executive Team to help shape organization-wide strategy and workplace culture Mentor retail staff and manage performance, including encouraging professional development opportunities and conducting annual performance evaluations Ensure that workloads for retail staff are manageable and that retail functions are fulfilled at a high level Foster a positive team environment that supports collaboration and creative problem-solving
PLANNING AND STRATEGY
•15% Develop a vision, strategy, and operational plan to maximize the Conservancy's support to Glacier National Park Project and quantify the potential impacts of changes in park operations and other external factors on retail sales Develop a long-term maintenance plan for Conservancy facilities and vehicles, including facility upgrades and vehicle replacements Work with NPS staff to update the Annual Operating Plan and Scope of Sales agreement Evaluate opportunities to grow the retail business consistent with the Cooperative Agreement with Glacier National Park Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): Minimum 5 years of senior-level retail management experience. Bachelor's degree required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proven leadership ability, team management experience, and interpersonal skills High level of computer literacy, particularly as it relates to Point-of-Sale systems, cost tracking, inventory control, and retail reporting Experience in organizational development, long-term planning, and budgeting Experience in a seasonal retail environment with multiple store locations preferred Ability to respond quickly and adapt to changing circumstances in a dynamic environment Willingness to work a flexible schedule Passion for the mission of the
Conservancy and Glacier National Park Pay:
$110,000.00•$125,000.00 per year
