SHEERGARD UTAH
Sandwich Composite Radome Manufacturing
SHOP MANAGER
Full-Time
• On-Site
• North Salt Lake, Utah About Sheergard Utah Sheergard Utah manufactures rigid-wall sandwich composite radomes and custom composite structures for defense, aerospace, satellite communications, and commercial customers. The North Salt Lake shop covers radome design support and full composite fabrication—hand lay-up, infusion, tooling, machining, finishing, and painting. We are hiring a Shop Manager to run day-to-day production. This is a hands-on leadership role: you own schedule, quality, safety, and the people on the floor. The Role The Shop Manager leads manufacturing operations for sandwich radome production and related composite work. You will plan and run the shop, coach technicians, keep jobs on schedule and on spec, and partner with quality, engineering, and materials so parts leave the floor ready for the customer. Key Responsibilities Plan, schedule, and run daily shop operations to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets. Lead, train, and hold accountable a team of composite technicians and shop personnel; assign work and balance workload across jobs. Oversee composite processes including sandwich construction, hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, infusion, bonding, core work, trimming, assembly, and finishing. Enforce work instructions, travelers, and process controls so every part matches engineering and customer requirements.
Own shop safety and housekeeping:
OSHA compliance, PPE, chemical handling, FOD control, and 5S. Coordinate materials, tooling, equipment, and outside processes so the floor is never waiting on the next operation. Track progress against the production plan; flag delays early and recover the schedule. Partner with quality on first-article, in-process inspection, nonconformances, and root-cause corrective action. Maintain equipment, tools, and fixtures; escalate maintenance and capacity issues before they stop production. Support continuous improvement—cycle time, scrap, rework, and shop-floor flow. Communicate clearly with ownership, program/engineering support, and customers when shop status is needed. Required Qualifications 5+ years of composite fabrication experience (fiberglass, carbon, sandwich/core, epoxy or similar resin systems). 3+ years leading people on a production floor (lead, supervisor, or manager). Hands-on knowledge of lay-up, vacuum bagging, infusion or equivalent closed-mold processes, bonding, trim, and assembly. Ability to read drawings, travelers, and work instructions and turn them into a practical build sequence. Proven record of hitting schedule and quality in a custom or low-to-mid volume manufacturing environment. Strong communication, organization, and accountability—comfortable being the person who owns the floor. High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in manufacturing, composites, or a related field is a plus. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Ability to obtain and maintain any customer-required access or background screening if needed. Preferred Qualifications Aerospace, defense, or radome / RF-structure manufacturing experience. Familiarity with AS9100 or similar quality systems. Experience with tooling, CNC/trim operations, painting, or theming of composite parts. Lean / 5S / continuous-improvement background. ERP, Smartsheet, or similar production-planning tools. What We Offer Competitive pay commensurate with experience. Health insurance and standard company benefits. Stable, growing work in sandwich radome production plus a broader composite shop. Direct impact—this role runs the floor, not a layer of middle management. North Salt Lake location with a skilled existing crew and established processes.
