Advanta US LLC is looking for a Discovery Research Associate to work in Bryan, Texas.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify, develop, and validate genome-wide and trait-associated molecular markers for core crops in Advanta Seeds. Calculate the predicted genetic map of important traits and markers in core crops. Perform variant calling, genotype quality control, and genomic imputation using standard bioinformatics pipelines (e.g., GATK, VCFtools, Beagle, AlphaPlantImpute2). Develop and optimize bioinformatics workflows in R, Python, and bash for large-scale genomic datasets. Conduct genetic diversity, population structure (PCA, phylogenetic tree), and linkage disequilibrium analyses. Generate detailed technical reports, visualizations, and presentations for internal and cross-functional teams. Collaborate with molecular biology and breeding teams to translate analytical findings into actionable breeding strategies. Assist senior scientists to manage the lab and projects.
Minimum Requirements:
The position requires a masters degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, or closely related field, along with eighteen (18) months of experience in the job offered or similar research position, in any occupational title. Position also requires eighteen (18) months of experience with the following: Genotyping marker and integration of genomic data sets; Basic bioinformatics and statistical analysis; and R coding knowledge.
