Professional:
Positions with duties and responsibilities that primarily involve professional or specialized work that requires the interpretation and application of concepts, theories, and judgment. As a minimum, all groups in this category require either a bachelor's degree. However, some occupations in this category have positive education requirements (i.e., a requirement for a particular type or level of academic degree). This work category features multiple career progression stages and work levels.

CAREER FIELD DEFINITION
Officers in this Career Field include all-source analysts, managers, and operations staff involved in researching information from multiple sources from which they gain insight that is then conveyed in a manner most appropriate for intelligence consumers. Officers conduct strategic, regional, and counterintelligence analysis; assess foreign military capabilities, infrastructures and resources essential to sustain defense forces. They analyze transnational issues such as illicit networks, foreign intelligence, and terrorist activities; scientifically and technologically assess advanced weapons and capabilities; and analyze emerging and disruptive technologies with potential military applications. This Career Field incorporates the analytic operations and knowledge management that enables the Defense Intelligence Enterprise to ensure quality products and services are available for defense intelligence clients.

Analysis Officers provide cutting-edge analysis from locations around the world on foreign military capabilities and defense issues in support of our nation's warfighters, policymakers, and defense planners. Officers in the Advanced All-Source Methods (AAM) career specialty demonstrate knowledge and
understanding of disciplines underpinning advanced methods and artificial intelligence in all-source
analysis.
- Analytic Methodologists combine expertise in analytic tradecraft and broad interdisciplinary
knowledge to integrate advanced quantitative methods with traditional analysis.
- Data Analysts extract intelligence insights from datasets through a variety of analytical, statistical, and mathematical tools and methods.
- Computer Scientists develop prototype programs and databases to test concepts and work with
software developers or vendors to turn those concepts into scalable, widely used capabilities.
- Statistician / Mathematician / Data Scientists develop cutting-edge algorithms that allow
statistical models and concepts used in machine learning and artificial intelligence to be applied
in new ways.
In aggregate, these officers research, develop, adapt, and review advanced analytics and artificial

- Biological Scientist (0401): (1) Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or (2) a combination of education and experience that included conferral of a degree in a major field of study equivalent to one the majors above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
- Chemist (1320): (1) Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; or (2) course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
- Engineering (0801, 0830, 0840, 0854, 0855, 0861): (1) Successful completion of a professional engineering degree in an ABET-accredited school of engineering; or (2) completion of a baccalaureate degree or higher in a course of study that included differential and integral calculus in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials; (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics; or (3) a combination of education and experience.

- Physical Scientist (1301): (1) Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, mathematics, and/or related degree that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; or (2) a combination of education and experience that included conferral of a degree in a major field of study equivalent to one the majors above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
