No Location CountyAlbany Street AddressWadsworth Center/ Division of Environmental Health Sciences Empire State Plaza CityAlbany StateNY Zip Code12237 Job Specifics Duties DescriptionThe Wadsworth Center's Division of Environmental Health Sciences (DEHS) is comprised of organic, inorganic and microbiological laboratories where skilled staff are relied upon to analyze environmental samples and human specimens, to identify and quantitate chemical contaminants that are known or suspected to be hazardous to public health. This position will support the Environmental Trace Elements Program, provide analytical capacity for lead testing by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), and support the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and FDA Food Defense activities. These efforts support childhood lead poisoning prevention, food safety, consumer product testing, and emerging contaminants testing.

Minimum QualificationsNon-Competitive:

bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences and two years of post-degree professional research experience

Substitutions:

master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemistry with research and/or work experience in Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) following microwave-assisted digestion of solid matrices and/or X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry.
