About the Position KOSTER American is looking for an Entry-Level R&D / Quality Control Chemist to join our team in Virginia Beach. This is a hands-on position for a recent graduate or early-career chemist interested in applying their education to the development, testing, and manufacturing of construction materials. The position will support both Research & Development and Quality Control , with opportunities to work in the laboratory and manufacturing environment. You will assist with improving existing products, developing new formulations, testing materials, and troubleshooting product and production issues. Responsibilities Assist with the development and improvement of cementitious, dry-mix, and coating products. Perform quality control testing of incoming raw materials and finished products. Prepare laboratory batches and accurately weigh, measure, mix, and document materials. Conduct physical and performance testing of products, including flow, consistency, set time, strength, adhesion, density, and other properties. Analyze test results and assist with formulation adjustments. Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, formulations, samples, and test records. Assist with research and development projects and product testing. Evaluate raw materials and alternative materials or suppliers. Assist with scaling laboratory formulations to manufacturing. Work with manufacturing personnel to troubleshoot formulation and production issues. Assist with competitive product evaluations and benchmarking. Follow laboratory, manufacturing, and workplace safety procedures. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related technical field. (Preferred) Strong laboratory and analytical skills. Understanding of basic laboratory practices, measurements, unit conversions, and mix ratios. Ability to accurately weigh, measure, mix, test, and document materials. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate work. Ability to analyze data and troubleshoot technical problems. Good written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team. Coursework or experience in formulation, coatings, cement chemistry, polymers, concrete, minerals, or construction materials is a plus. Experience with ASTM testing, IR analysis, laboratory work, internships, co-ops, or manufacturing is a plus.
