Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental stewardship, is looking for a Chemist for their Vancouver, Washington location. In this role, you will provide laboratory and field-based chemistry support for electrical transmission equipment, substation maintenance, and environmental programs. You will perform chemical testing and analysis of insulating oils, hazardous materials, and environmental samples, helping assess equipment health, support environmental compliance, and contribute to cleanup activities. This position combines hands-on laboratory work with occasional field support at substations throughout the utility's service territory. Pay Range:

$48.00 - 50.00 hourly, DOE

Location:

Vancouver, Washington - ONSITE Key Responsibilities for

Chemist:

Receive, log, track, and process laboratory test samples while maintaining accurate chain-of-custody documentation.

Perform oil quality, dissolved gas analysis (DGA), and PCB testing, analyze results, identify unknown materials, and prepare accurate technical reports.

Conduct chemical waste profile analysis and prepare timely documentation to support environmental and hazardous waste activities.

Perform specialized testing on transformer insulating oil, including furan analysis and metal particle counts.

Coordinate with field personnel regarding proper sample collection, shipment, handling, and waste disposal procedures.

Apply ASTM standards for electrical insulating liquids and gases to laboratory testing and analysis within the utility industry.

Provide technical input and recommendations regarding electrical insulating liquids and related product selections.

Maintain laboratory equipment, identify repair or maintenance needs, and support general laboratory organization and cleanliness.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by recommending enhancements to laboratory procedures, testing processes, efficiency, and quality.

Requirements/Qualification for

Chemist:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is required.

5+ years of professional experience in research chemistry, quality control chemistry, laboratory testing, or a closely related chemistry environment.

Strong knowledge of chemistry principles, analytical testing methods, and laboratory procedures.

Demonstrated experience performing laboratory and field-based chemical testing.

Ability to interpret and apply applicable testing standards, methods, and specifications to samples and analytical results.

Working knowledge of Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), including identification and interpretation of key gases, is preferred.

Experience with PCB analysis of liquid and soil samples is preferred.

Knowledge of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) hazardous waste regulations, including 40 CFR Part 261, is preferred.

Knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for shipping hazardous materials or waste is preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is preferred.
