Job Title:

Analytical Chemist Job Description This role performs routine and specialized analytical chemical testing to support manufacturing, quality control, and development activities in an OTC manufacturing analytical chemistry laboratory. The Analytical Chemist ensures accurate and timely analysis of a wide range of samples, maintains high documentation standards, and supports method development, troubleshooting, and investigations while working collaboratively with laboratory and production teams. Responsibilities Perform routine analytical chemical testing on products submitted to the laboratory, including raw materials, in-process batches, finished goods or bulk samples, water samples, cleaning samples, stability samples, and other materials as required. Conduct specialized analytical testing as directed by laboratory leadership in support of development projects, new product introductions, method troubleshooting, and Out of Specification (OOS) investigations. Properly document all analytical results in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions, ensuring complete, accurate, and compliant records. Review the analytical work and documentation of other laboratory personnel when required to support data integrity and quality standards. Learn, operate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation, including gas chromatography (GC), High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UV/Visible spectrophotometry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and other analytical equipment. Conduct analytical work in support of cleaning validations and engineering trials to verify effectiveness and support process improvements. Compile, summarize, and interpret analytical data when required, providing clear and concise results and conclusions. Perform general laboratory housekeeping, including maintaining a clean and organized work area and cleaning glassware and equipment as needed. Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with management, coworkers, suppliers, and customers regarding testing status, results, and issues. Complete other laboratory assignments and projects as requested by laboratory leadership to support departmental and organizational goals. Maintain and promote strong work ethics, adhering to all policies, procedures, and quality standards within the laboratory and broader organization. Essential Skills Bachelors degree in Chemistry or a related laboratory science discipline. Experience performing analytical chemistry testing in a laboratory environment. Familiarity with High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) techniques and instrumentation. Familiarity with Gas Chromatography (GC) techniques and instrumentation. Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions with strong attention to detail. Strong documentation skills to accurately record, organize, and review analytical data. Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with management, coworkers, suppliers, and customers. Ability to support cleaning validation and engineering trial activities through analytical testing. Capability to work independently and as part of a team in a regulated laboratory setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications 1+ years of experience in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) laboratory is preferred. Experience working in an OTC or similar regulated manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with UV/Visible spectrophotometry and FTIR instrumentation. Experience compiling and summarizing analytical data and preparing clear reports. Demonstrated ability to review the work of other laboratory personnel for accuracy and completeness. Strong work ethic and commitment to upholding laboratory policies, procedures, and quality standards. Flexibility to take on additional assignments and support special projects as needed. Work Environment The position is based in an OTC manufacturing analytical chemistry laboratory that supports multiple facilities in a dynamic production environment. The role involves regular use of analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV/Visible spectrophotometers, FTIR, and related laboratory equipment. The schedule is a full-time, third-shift position, working Monday through Friday from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Candidates must be able to work extra hours, including limited weekend work, when necessary to manage workload spikes and meet critical deadlines. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
