CLINICAL RESEARCH NURSE COORDINATOR
Coordinate clinical research studies conducted by a supervising physician to ensure that patient treatment provided by primary care personnel and data collected adhere to study protocol. The Buffalo Institute for Medical Research (BIMR) is looking for a Clinical Researcher Coordinator. We are a non-profit corporation established to facilitate and support the medical research and educational mission of the VA Western New York Healthcare System. We promote biomedical and health service research for the benefit of Veteran patients. Screen patients for inclusion in study based on predetermined criteria. Maintain inventory of unique drugs and supplies needed for study. Provide basic patient care and treatment as requested by the physician. Ensure compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies. Must complete and submit regulatory documents. Identify problems and/or inconsistencies and monitor patients' progress to include documentation and reporting of adverse events; recommend corrective action as appropriate. Assist investigators in preparing confidentiality documents, site budgets and statements of work. Obtain patient blood samples, cultures, tissues, and other specimens for laboratory analysis and study procedures required per protocol Initiate drug orders and laboratory studies for patients based on standing protocol orders. Utilize best laboratory bench practices in preparing, inventorying, and maintaining biological samples for long term storage, for shipment including centrifuges, agitators, biological freezers. Confer with patient and attending physician to explain purpose of study and obtain written consent for patient to participate; explain diagnostic procedures and method of treatment to alleviate patient and family concern. Collect information and data from patient charts and records, patient interviews, and other sources; evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare protocol summary forms, statistical reports and analysis setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Confer with physicians in developing plans and protocols for clinical research studies and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
Qualifications:
Requires graduation from an accredited BS in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program and State licensure. Requires at least three years of recent clinical work experience (medical/surgical). Must be proficient with blood draws and lab sample processing. At least two years of experience as a research nurse coordinator/assistant is recommended. CCRC preferred. Part time position with potential for full time
