Environmental Specialist
Job Description
Join the Duro-Last team, a brand of Amrize Building Envelope and the world's largest manufacturer of custom-fabricated commercial roofing solutions. Were seeking a Environmental Specialist who's ready to be part of an innovative, people-first brand shaping the future of the roofing industry. Job purpose The Entry-Level Environmental Specialist will work directly with facility leadership andsenior safety personnel to support day-to-day regulatory compliance, hazardous wastetracking, and recordkeeping for our thermal treatment operations. This role offershands-on experience in environmental reporting, internal auditing, and regulatoryalignment with EPA, and OSHA standards. Duties and responsibilities
Documentation & Recordkeeping:
Assist in maintaining and updating the facility'sPermit Operating Record, waste analysis plans, contingency plans, and employeetraining logs.
Hazardous Waste Handling Support:
Learn and assist with hazardous wastecharacterization, labeling, manifesting, storage time limit tracking, andrecordkeeping under 40 CFR Parts 260-270 and 30 TAC Chapter 335.
Operational Monitoring:
Assist with tracking permit conditions, thermal treatmentunit operating parameters, and environmental monitoring data.
Compliance Inspections:
Participate in routine internal compliance audits and self-inspections to identify and resolve potential issues proactive before official reviews.
Reporting Assistance:
Support senior staff in gathering data and preparing routineregulatory reports (e.g., Biennial Reports, exception notifications, permit deviationreports).
Training & Safety Support:
Assist in delivering and tracking required initial andannual refresher training (RCRA, safety, environmental) for facility personnel.
Regulatory & Emergency Prep:
Help support regulatory inspection readiness andparticipate in emergency preparedness planning for energetic materials handling.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with operations, safety, andengineering staff to ensure day-to-day activities align with regulatory permits.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, EnvironmentalEngineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related scientific/technical field(completed or near completion).
Experience:
Entry-level (0-2 years of relevant internship, co-op, or academiclab/project experience).
Technical Knowledge:
Basic coursework or familiarization with federal(EPA/RCRA) and state environmental regulations.
Prior internship or academic project experience related to industrial compliance,hazardous waste handling, or environmental sampling.
Initial RCRA or OSHA 24/40-Hour
HAZWOPER
coursework/certification. Key Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail and strong document organization abilities.
Proficiency in standard office software (Microsoft Excel, Word). Physical requirements Ability to pass required background checks and obtain facility clearance asneeded.
Willingness to learn specialized hazardous waste, air emissions, and thermaltreatment protocols on the job.
