Assays Full Job Description About NEB:
NEB conducts testing on wastewater, soil, and sediment samples to help protect aquatic organisms and prevent environmental pollution. About the
Role:
This role supports regulatory testing and requires consistent, high-quality, defensible data. Training in both culturing and testing departments for this position will be provided, and daily tasks will be assigned based on training level and workload in each department.
Responsibilities include:
Setting up, conducting, and monitoring aquatic toxicity tests (freshwater and marine) Preparing dilutions, controls, and replicates according to established methods Monitoring and recording biological endpoints (e.g., survival, growth, reproduction) Maintaining cultures of aquatic test organisms Measuring and adjusting water quality parameters (e.g., pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity) Recording and managing data in accordance with QA/QC and data integrity requirements Following SOPs and supporting compliance with regulatory standards
Qualifications:
College degree preferred Background in environmental science, marine science, or a related field Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to follow protocols and work in a regulated environment Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Experience with aquatic bioassays, organism culture, or environmental laboratory work preferred
Physical Requirements:
Good vision for counting small aquatic organisms Ability to stand for extended periods Capability to lift and handle heavy water samples
Schedule Requirements:
Required to work 1 to 2 weekends a month and work at least one holiday a year, with weekdays off in exchange. Availability of working overtime based on workload and staffing
