Overview The Water Sampling Technician is responsible for performing on-site water sample collection in support of scheduled and emergency water-quality testing at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. The project covers the Sterile Processing Service water system, including utility water, critical water, steam, RO-related systems, Medivators, sinks, loop feed/return points, and other designated sampling locations. The sampler will collect water samples according to the project sampling schedule and applicable

requirements, properly prepare and package samples, maintain accurate sample identification and collection information, and arrange shipment to the designated laboratory. The VA specifically requires the contractor's personnel to perform the sampling; VA employees may assist with access and escorting but will not collect the samples. Primary Responsibilities Perform on-site water sampling at assigned locations throughout SPS and associated hospital areas. Follow approved water-sampling techniques, project procedures, and applicable

requirements. Complete required monthly and quarterly sampling according to the established schedule and assigned locations. Collect samples for required parameters, including pH, alkalinity, bacteria, endotoxin/LAL, ionic contaminants, conductivity, total hardness , and other contract-required analyses. Collect and prepare all samples on site for laboratory analysis. Under the current VA-approved procedure, samples are shipped to the designated laboratory; no field measurements are performed on site . Use the appropriate sampling containers, materials, labels, packaging, and shipping supplies for each sample. Accurately identify samples by collection location and collection date to ensure complete traceability of laboratory results. Properly package and prepare samples for shipment while maintaining sample integrity and following applicable handling requirements. Promptly report collection issues, damaged containers, suspected contamination, incorrect sampling points, or other conditions that could affect sample validity. Perform repeat or additional sampling when required based on laboratory results, project requirements, or direction from project management. Respond to emergency sampling requests associated with potential water-supply contamination events. Emergency response requirements include notification/response within one hour and, when required, dispatching sampling personnel to the site within 24 hours . Complete routine sampling assignments during normal on-site service hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time , excluding federal holidays. Required Qualifications Training in water-sampling techniques and procedures. Ability to follow written sampling procedures and applicable

requirements. Ability to accurately identify designated sampling locations and collect samples using techniques that prevent contamination. Ability to properly label, document, package, and prepare samples for laboratory shipment. Ability to work professionally within a hospital and sterile-processing environment while complying with PPE, infection-control, safety, security, and visitor requirements . Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate sampling and documentation records. Professional communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with VA personnel, laboratory personnel, and project management. Ability to demonstrate sampling competency when requested. The VA may request information regarding personnel assigned to the project, including their job title, job description, qualifications, training, and demonstrated competency . Work Environment The Water Sampling Technician will work primarily on-site at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital , including Sterile Processing Service and GI-related areas. Sampling locations identified in the project include 2-bay and 3-bay sinks, GI sinks, Medivators, SPS critical-water locations, steam points of use, and critical-water loop feed and return locations.
