Reports To:
Operations Manager, Alkalinea LLC About Alkalinea LLC Alkalinea LLC is a growing oil and gas startup serving operators in the Williston Basin. We're building a lean, highly capable field team and are looking for a detail-oriented Mobile Laboratory Technician to support water and fluid analysis work across active well sites. Position Summary The Mobile Laboratory Technician performs on-site sampling, testing, and analysis of produced water, drilling fluids, and other oilfield fluids using mobile lab equipment. This is a part-time, contract (1099) position suited to someone who wants flexible hours while working in a fast-paced field environment. The technician will operate independently at well sites, ensuring data accuracy, sample chain-of- custody, and timely reporting to support operational decision-making. Key Responsibilities Travel to well sites and field locations throughout the Williston Basin to collect fluid, water, and/or gas samples Operate and maintain mobile laboratory equipment (e.g., titrators, spectrophotometers, pH/conductivity meters, turbidity meters, ion chromatography or similar field instruments) Perform on-site chemical and physical testing (e.g., pH, chlorides, iron content, scale/corrosion indicators, bacteria counts, TDS, hardness) per company and industry protocols Accurately log, label, and maintain chain-of-custody for all samples Record and report test results promptly and accurately using company data systems or standard reporting formats Calibrate, clean, and troubleshoot lab equipment; flag maintenance or supply needs Follow all site-specific safety protocols, HSE requirements, and PPE standards while on well pads Communicate results and any anomalies to the Operations Manager and relevant field personnel Maintain accurate mileage, time, and sample logs for invoicing purposes as an independent contractor Qualifications Prior experience in oilfield water/fluid testing, lab work, or a related technical field preferred Familiarity with basic wet chemistry techniques and field lab instrumentation Comfortable working independently and managing a flexible schedule (20-30 hrs/week) Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between well sites Ability to work outdoors and on active well sites in varying weather conditions Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping Basic computer proficiency (data entry, email, spreadsheets) Must be able to pass site-specific safety orientations/certifications as required by client operators (e.g., PEC Safety, Veriforce) High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in chemistry, environmental science, or petroleum technology a plus
Work Schedule & Contract Terms Hours:
20-30 hours per week, schedule may vary based on well site activity and sampling needs
Classification:
Independent Contractor (1099) — technician is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and equipment unless otherwise specified
Location:
Williston, ND and surrounding well sites; mileage/travel between sites required
Compensation:
$30-$35/hour, commensurate with experience
Mileage Reimbursement:
Reimbursed at the current IRS standard mileage rate for travel between well sites (does not apply to standard commute to first site of the day). Mileage logs must be submitted with each invoice for reimbursement. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry lab equipment and sample containers (up to ~40 lbs) Ability to stand, bend, and work in outdoor field conditions for extended periods Comfortable working around active industrial oil and gas operations Alkalinea LLC engages this role as an independent contractor relationship. This position does not include employee benefits (health insurance, paid time off, etc.). The contractor is responsible for providing their own tools/transportation unless otherwise agreed in the contractor agreement.
Pay:
$25.00 - $35.93 per hour
