Long term care community is searching for an Infection Control Preventionist. This position is responsible for the planning, organizing and training of all nursing personnel along with the surveillance of infections in the facility. This position oversees Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Infection Control Maintain care plan regarding infection control. Tracks vaccination status of residents to ensure timely vaccinations. Develop, maintain and update policies and procedures related to infection control, including reference materials. Assess new resident admissions. Administer resident TB testing upon admission and annually. Administer staff TB testing upon hire and annually. Administer and record annual flu vaccine for residents and staff. Track outbreaks for residents and staff. Track and classify all infections. Provide monthly reports to the Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee. Surveillance of healthcare acquired/community acquired infections. Documents risk/benefits following McGeers Criteria. Track specimem collection when ordered. Maintain communication with the Health Department and attending physicians. Staff Development/In-service Develop an annual scheduled program of continuing in-service education for all levels of Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center personnel and conduct training classes. Evaluate planned in-service classes, lectures, demonstrations, etc., which are conducted at regular intervals as identified on monthly in-service calendar. Communicate with department heads to ensure federal and state compliance for all department in-services. Maintain a record of CNA/nurse meeting agendas and attendance. Maintain in-service records for all current staff. Update diabetics, CPR, thickened liquids, and place cards in residents over-bed sign system. Periodically perform rounds on units to ensure nurses and CNA's are performing tasks properly. Assist in preparing for annual surveys Develop and in-service new or updated policies and procedures as needed. Hire and facilitate training of new nurses and CNA's. Educate and evaluate staff on required competencies.
Qualifications:
RN preferred. Infection prevention certification required. Long term care experience required. Infection control experience required. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions. Most possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors and government agencies. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other staff.
