Coordinates the process of identifying and reducing risks of endemic and epidemic infections in patients and health care workers. Monitors compliance with infection control standards such as hand hygiene, barrier precautions and isolation precautions. Functions as a consultant to Employee Health Services.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelor Degree:
Nursing or Medical Technologist
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Three to five (3-5) years acute care experience or microbiology experience
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Licensure to be eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin and / or the State of Illinois based on job location assignment or current registration as a Medical Technologist, issued by the ASCP or equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of acute care infection control policies and procedures Certification in Infection Control is preferred Experience with local, state, Joint Commission and CMS regulations Ability to perform work independently Ability to prioritize multiple activities Computer skills - Excel experience/maintenance of specialized software
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Designs and implements Infection Control surveillance activities. Aggregates, trends and reports significant findings about infections. Assists in the development and coordination of Infection Control prevention activities using evidence based practices. Implements, independently or with others as appropriate, strategies to control outbreaks of healthcare acquired infections when identified. Monitors compliance with infection control standards such as hand hygiene, barrier precautions and isolation precautions. Measures the effectiveness of the Infection Control Program. Staffs the Infection Control Committee and other hospital or medical staff committees as necessary. Participates in ongoing infection control related education and training. Responsible for reporting infection data to the state or internal departments.
