This role is responsible for quality control systems, Safe Quality Food (SQF) audit support and protocols, USDA Organic certification implementation, and retailer-required certifications. Training and mentorship will be provided by the company's Chief Food Scientist with over 10 years of industry expertise. The ideal candidate will help guide and strengthen the company's overall quality program while helping the team ensure consistent product excellence and regulatory compliance. This is not an easy desk job. There are easier jobs then what this will require although few, if any, offer the same level of long-term opportunity. While the role will have a private office, a significant amount of time will be in a non-air-conditioned hot food production environment…think back of the kitchen at large scale. Patience and the ability to communicate with a diverse team is essential. The company is entering a growth phase that is expected to accelerate even more with new technology. A new flexible pouching line is scheduled for this year. New product formulations are in development and are being led by our Chief Food Scientist. A strategy to position the company to capitalize on significant opportunities that more directly benefits the team is underway and expected to be formally implemented over the next 12 months. Education & Experience Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Food Science required. All experience levels welcome. Willingness to become an SQF Practitioner, other industry certifications. The company will be investing significant resources on your development, as a result, we are seeking candidates who want to remain in the position for the long-term. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Follow all safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. Support food production with a passion for the culinary profession; mentor cooks and production team members on best practices. Identify and resolve non-conformances and process variances. Help implement and continuously improve Quality Systems and Processes. Manage internal and external audits (SQF, USDA Organic, and retailer-required certifications). Oversee and guide the company's overall Quality program. Manage SQF Practitioner(s) and oversee Quality Technicians, including sampling and review of the food processing environment, equipment, and product for microbiological and chemical attributes to ensure acceptable hygienic conditions and chemical characteristics. Assist with internal Work Order Documentation Recognize and test for compliance with Acceptable Quality Limits (AQL) and communicate findings with the Production Supervisor and Quality Assurance Manager to resolve issues promptly. Other Essential Duties Oversee pre-production sanitation review of the food processing environment and equipment. Verify samples of environmental surfaces, finished product, and ingredients for microbiological and chemical attributes. Verify collected packages and perform tests associated with AQL (weight, temperature, package code dates, etc.). Verify that ingredients and packaging materials meet internal product specifications. Place product on hold when it does not meet AQL standards. Communicate deviations immediately to Operations Supervision and Management so corrections can be made. Document and maintain accurate, concise records for HACCP in a data repository. Print labels on the label machine as needed, coordinate with planning and scheduling, inventory management. Assist Production with duties as required. Remain adaptable to production schedule changes. Assist with supplier ingredient sourcing. Minimum Requirements Positive attitude and strong work ethic Ability to commute to Dayton, OH and be in office Monday-Friday (required) Ability to manage time efficiently and take initiative Excellent communication skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment Computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint), other industry software solutions. Previous quality work experience a plus Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation is required English language proficiency required

Full-time onsite is the preference, although for the right candidate an interim flexible schedule is possible to accommodate those with outside responsibilities (ex. children's school schedule, functions, etc.)
