Job Description

GeoLogic is seeking a Temporary Field Geologist to assist our busy engineering and geological consulting firm with upcoming projects in the eastern United States. The incumbent will conduct fieldwork for geological exploration projects, typically related to mining and natural-resource development, throughout the eastern U.S., including Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Primary duties will include supervising and directing drilling activities; logging rock core and sediment samples; maintaining accurate field documentation, boring logs, sample records, and photo logs; collecting geological data through field mapping and site reconnaissance; surveying field data locations; organizing, transporting, splitting, and sampling rock core and sediment samples; and communicating field observations and results to the project manager on a daily basis. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with groundwater and environmental assessments, preparing boring logs, cross-sections, figures, and photo logs, and supporting data management and QA/QC. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic self-starter who is teachable, detail-oriented, safety-focused, able to work flexible shifts such as consecutive 10-day-on, 4-day-off rotations, willing to work in remote areas with minimal supervision, comfortable working around active drilling operations, heavy equipment, uneven terrain, and remote field conditions, and able to spend long hours in the field to support timely project completion. This is a temporary position
  • not to exceed 180 days
  • and it is available immediately.
The position is approximately 95% out-of-state travel and field work. No benefits are offered with this temporary position. At the conclusion of the temporary assignment, GeoLogic may consider offering a full-time, benefits-eligible position based on business needs and the candidate's performance. Travel-related expenses, including lodging and other approved project expenses, will be covered or reimbursed in accordance with GeoLogic policy. Meal per diem will be provided for qualifying out-of-town travel. GeoLogic strictly prohibits any collaboration with recruiting firms, temp to hire firms, or other firms that post and forward candidate resumes. If a candidate's resume is forwarded to any employee of GeoLogic, it becomes the property of GeoLogic and no fee will be paid to the sender.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or related field
  • Experience logging rock core and other types of samples
  • Local residency within reasonable commuting distance of GeoLogic's Marietta, Georgia office
  • Ability to travel out-of-state for up to 10-day shifts
  • Schedule flexibility
  • Ability to safely lift 60+ pounds regularly while standing, squatting, and kneeling
  • Ability to travel and work long hours in extreme weather (position is approximately 95% travel and fieldwork)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for daily field reporting and coordination with project managers
  • Ability to maintain accurate, organized, and complete field notes, boring logs, sample records, and photo documentation
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States (confirmed via E-Verify)
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and OSHA physical
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • GIS experience
  • Master's Degree in Geology
  • Geologist in Training (GIT) certification
  • FAA Part 107 License
  • OSHA 10-hour training certification
  • OSHA 40-hour
HAZWOPER
certification
  • MSHA part 48(b) Surface New Miner certification
  • Experience towing trailers, and safely securing loads
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Being authorized to work in the U.
