A Geothermal Exploration and Development Geologist at Mazama Energy performs a critical role in the Company's exploration and development of geothermal resources. This position requires a deep understanding of geological processes, rock formation, and geothermal systems. This role collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate potential geothermal sites, conduct geological surveys, and contribute to the development of sustainable energy solutions Additionally, this position will play a critical role in identifying, evaluating, and advancing geothermal opportunities from early-stage concept generation through exploration, appraisal, drilling, resource confirmation, and field development. This individual will work closely with geoscience, drilling, reservoir, and stimulation engineering teams to integrate geological, geophysical, geochemical, and well-site data into geothermal reservoir development, management, and field operations.
Essential Duties and Proficiencies:

Geothermal Exploration and Prospect Evaluation Conduct geological, geophysical, and geochemical assessments to identify and evaluate new geothermal resource opportunities. Analyze drilling data and core samples to determine reservoir characteristics and energy potential. Develop predictive models to estimate resource sustainability and assess longterm production viability. Plan and execute geological field studies, including mapping, sampling, and monitoring of geothermal sites. Utilize geological modeling and software tools to interpret geological data and create visual representations of resources. Ensure safety protocols are followed during fieldwork and that all team members are trained in emergency response procedures. Technical Due Diligence and Opportunity Assessment Participate in technical due diligence evaluations of geothermal acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, and investment opportunities. Conduct comprehensive reviews of geothermal exploration and development data rooms. Evaluate subsurface datasets and project risks associated with potential investments and development opportunities. Prepare technical assessments, resource evaluations, and risk analyses for management and stakeholders. Data Analysis, Reporting and Collaboration Process and evaluate geological data, forming conclusions that guide exploration strategies. Collaborate with engineers and other scientists to integrate geological data into project development plans. Develop statistical models to enhance the interpretation of data and support decisionmaking processes. Prepare comprehensive reports on findings, assessments, and recommendations for management and stakeholders. Maintain clear documentation of all geological studies, adherence to project timelines, and regulatory compliance. Create presentations to effectively communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences. Work closely with project teams, including geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and environmental scientists, to support geothermal project development. Engage with external stakeholders, including governmental agencies and local communities, to present findings and gather input on project impacts. Participate in regular team meetings and brainstorming sessions to foster collaborative problemsolving. Research and Development Stay current with advancements in geothermal technologies and best practices in geology. Participate in internal and external research initiatives to enhance the company's geothermal exploration and production techniques. Contribute to the development of innovative approaches for geothermal resource management and environmental stewardship. Qualifications and Experience Master's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field is required; PhD is preferred. Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in geology, specifically in geothermal energy or related fields, to operate in an unsupervised role. Knowledge of geothermal energy technologies and exploration techniques. Experience in geothermal geochemistry is a strong plus. Proficient in geological mapping, data analysis software (e.g., GIS, Petrel), and fieldwork methodologies. Skills and Competencies Hard Skills Proficiency in geological software and modeling tools (e.g., ArcGIS, Leapfrog, GeoGraphix, Petrel). Experience with geophysical techniques, such as seismic surveys and resistivity measurements. Expertise in analyzing core samples and performing rock mechanics testing. Familiarity with drilling operations and procedures specific to geothermal resource extraction. Field Skills Ability to conduct geological mapping and stratigraphic studies in various terrains. Experience in field sampling techniques (e.g., soil, rock, and water sampling). Proficiency in using field equipment, such as GPS devices, compasses, and geological hammers. Skills in conducting heat flow measurements and monitoring geothermal well performance. Soft Skills Excellent communication skills for presenting findings clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Collaborative mindset with a focus on teamwork and building relationships across disciplines. Adaptability and problemsolving skills to navigate challenges in exploration and fieldwork environments. Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple projects and field activities effectively. Physical Requirements Ability to travel periodically to geothermal exploration, drilling, appraisal, and development project sites. Ability to work safely in active drilling and industrial field environments. Ability to stand, walk, climb, and navigate uneven terrain during field assignments. Ability to occasionally lift and carry field equipment or materials up to 25 pounds. Ability to work extended hours during critical drilling and operational activities when necessary. Must be able to pass preemployment and periodic drug screenings and background checks. Must be fluent in English, both written and verbal.
