Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Lead Service Line Inspectors help support Iowa's compliance with the EPA's Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) by conducting door-to-door outreach and completing brief in-home inspections of customer water service lines. This is a primarily field-based role focused on customer communication, simple pipe identification, and accurate documentation. You'll work in two-person teams for all field activities. A portion of each day includes entering your inspection results into internal tracking systems.
WHAT TO EXPECT
  • Always work in 2-person teams in the field for safety, support, and customer comfort.
  • No sales, quotas, or commissions. You're never held accountable for whether someone answers the door.
  • Company vehicle provided for all field work — no personal mileage required.
  • Company branded coats, hats, and seasonal gear provided for identification and weather protection.
  • Company-directed schedules with flexibility: later start times and evening hours are common, and Saturday work may be required based on project needs (overtime or flex time available).
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Visit residential properties with your team partner to explain the Lead Service Line Identification program and request access for a quick interior inspection.
  • Locate the water meter, identify the service line material, perform a simple diagnostic test, and take photos.
  • Leave door hangers and self-report instructions when customers are unavailable.
  • Accurately record inspection results, photos, and daily activities in digital tools.
  • Navigate basements, stairs, and uneven surfaces safely while representing the company professionally.
  • Work safely and comply with all safety policies, prioritizing safety over results.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong communication and customer-interaction skills.
  • Ability to record and enter data accurately.
  • Comfort working outdoors and in residential environments with a team partner.
  • Ability to climb stairs and walk on uneven terrain.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
