NWI Technician - Calibrations Lubbock 44894BR National Wind Institute Position Description The NWI Technician plays a key role in the installation, maintenance, and technical troubleshooting of Mesonet (weather) stations, rain gauges and radar stations across the region. This position requires strong technical skills, the ability to work independently in the field, and effective communication with landowners and project stakeholders. The technician ensures that environmental data streams remain accurate, timely, and reliable, directly supporting critical weather monitoring and research operations. //www.depts.ttu.edu/nwi/ Major/Essential Functions Troubleshoot weather sensors. completing repair when possible, coordinating external repair with supplier when necessary. Maintain laboratory to support instrument repair and calibration. Perform regular instrument calibration, complete battery testing, soil conductivity measurements, and other technical measurement tasks that benefit the West Texas Mesonet. Help develop an inventory and bar code reader system to keep track of sensors, organize storage systems to support station maintenance and installation. Assist with datalogger operating system and program updates and cell modem operating system upgrades. Assist with ordering and receiving of weather station supplies. Assist with field maintenance and installation efforts when needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 1 to 3 years of experience in field-based technical work. Additional experience, instead of education, can be considered on a year-for-year basis. This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience leading a calibration laboratory Experience with data loggers, data logger programming, cellular communication systems, and other related technologies Background in weather related technologies (e.g. radar, lidar) Knowledge of weather-related terminology Experience with weather related data product generation.
