To accomplish this, we engage with local, state and federal agencies, businesses, like organizations and individuals to promote ecological awareness and implement conservation practices in the county. BCCD is a local unit of government, IRS 170(c)(1), and serves Berrien County through stewardship of natural resources. Historically, the District is funded by several sources - state, federal, and local grants, seedling sales, services for hire, and donations.

SCOPE AND PURPOSE

The part-time position of Soil Erosion (SESC) Inspector II is to assist in enforcement of the State of Michigan Part 91 SESC Act requirements for Berrien County. Part 91 requires no soil or sedimentation to cross property lines or enter a body of water. A permit is required for any "earth change" within 500 feet of a lake or stream or over an acre in size. Inspections are conducted to ensure protection of the environment and adherence to Part 91 rules.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform soil erosion field inspections in accordance with EGLE accepted practices. Perform checklist and note violations as trained. Assignments of inspections will be by the Berrien County Drain office. Report non-compliance to Drain office Represent the Berrien County Drain office in court if necessary to testify on non-compliance issues. Perform drain checks and /or take photos as directed by the Drain Commissioner. This will be occasional work that is outside of normal inspection tasks Assist with the general SESC program with the Berrien County Drain Office Berrien County Conservation District program support as needed. .

Qualifications:

The applicant must possess a High School diploma. An associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience is preferred. The applicant must be able to pass the test or have a Storm Water Operator certification from the Michigan EGLE.

Preferred Experience:

Must have one to two years of related experience, such as related college-level coursework, such as landscape architecture, civil engineering, earth sciences, or construction trade work, or demonstrated knowledge, ability and skills to perform the work Ability to navigate the Drain office-issued tablet and software, and/or a camera needed for field inspections. U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien Ability to pass a background check Maintains a valid driver's license and a working vehicle This description is intended to serve as a guide for the position Soil Erosion Inspector which describes the general nature and level of work expected of this position. It is not to be considered inclusive of all job responsibilities. Use of a personal vehicle is required to perform duties. Mileage will be reimbursed at current Federal Rate. This is a Winter Seasonal 3 to 4 month or more part-time 20-hour per week position with significant flexibility due to some evening and occasional weekend activities. Hourly rate is $19.00 per hour.
