Teaching Specialist University of Minnesota retirement plan United States, Minnesota, Saint Paul Aug 06, 2026 Apply for Job Job ID 375288 Location Twin Cities Job Family Academic Full/Part Time Part-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Job Code 9754 Employee Class Acad Prof and Admin Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job About the Job The Department of Agron&Plant Genetics is looking to hire a Teaching Specialist to teach the following course in the Fall 2026 semester. 4 credits, AGRO 1101 titled, "Biology of Plant Food Systems" Duties/Responsibilities Teaching (90%) Attend class meetings and deliver course content Evaluation of student performance Grade student materials, including exams, papers and final projects Submit grades Respond to student inquiries and meet with students Course Preparation (10%) Complete orientation and training to subject matter Meet with appropriate faculty and gather information as needed Develop course content and syllabus in ways that effectively account for a variety of diverse backgrounds, communities, identities, and abilities Prepare course materials, including final exam Qualifications Required Advanced degree in a related major Excellent writing skills Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, staff and the community Preferred Experience working collaboratively with academic departments and/or in the community. Experience advising/mentoring students. Experience and ability to organize and manage students projects Experience working/teaching with culturally diverse students Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the collegiate level. About the Department The Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics has 25 faculty members with strength in breeding, genetics/genomics, biotechnology, agronomy/agroecology, weed science and crop physiology. Faculty research programs are focused on improvement of traditional and emerging crops and developing agronomic practices for crops that are of key importance to agriculture in the upper Midwest and beyond. Faculty in the department are members of the Applied Plant Sciences, Plant and Microbial Biology, and other graduate programs. The faculty teach in the Plant Science and Food Systems and Sustainable Agriculture interdepartmental undergraduate programs and the Applied Plant Sciences graduate program.

Pay and Benefits Pay Range:

$12,8000 total ($3,200 per credit for a four-credit class) Retirement plan options are available for Civil Service, Faculty, Labor-Represented, Professional & Administrative, and Temp Casual classifications.
