Posting Details Position Information Job Title Biological Sciences Student Engagement Internship - Fall 2026 Department Biological Sciences Job Description/Duties By participating in the Biology committee and subcommittees dedicated to specific student engagement, recruitment, retention and participation goals and by planning and implementing projects aimed at fostering a more engaged student population. Students will promote departmental efforts and explore the barriers to student success in accessing educational goals. In doing so, they will be members of a Biological Sciences department committee to provide the student perspective on issues associated with creating a safe and inviting community in the Biological Sciences department. They will volunteer for a subcommittee to further a specific action or goal related to such issues. The committee, including the students serving on it, make a commitment to support and empower all students, alumni, staff, and faculty of the department. Students participating in this internship course are required to complete several assignments, listed below. Attend and participate in all relevant committee meetings to represent student interests. Join a subcommittee of the committee. Collaborate with other committee members to implement meaningful change to the Department/College to increase student engagement. Create an action plan for their goals and the goals of the subcommittee they are on. This includes outlining steps to implement a new project or make significant progress on existing committee projects. Meet regularly with internship supervisor to discuss action plan and current progress. Write a reflection paper on the student's efforts to make the Biological Sciences Department a engaging place for all community members, and how this supports their career goals (1 - 2 pages). Complete a 1-page self-assessment of the implementation of their action plan. Lead the effort to find the next year's student committee members by reviewing applications and interviewing applicants. Days/Hours Needed 40 hours over the course of the semester and participation in biweekly committee meetings on Thursday at noon Campus Location/Bldg. Bowers Hall Required Qualifications Must be a SUNY Cortland student Preferred Qualifications Already be a member of the Biology student/faculty committee on campus.
