Job Overview The Aquarist plays a crucial role in the care and management of aquatic life in aquariums in the store. This position involves monitoring the health and well-being of marine and freshwater species, maintaining aquatic habitats, and educating the public about aquatic ecosystems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for marine and freshwater aquariums, along with practical experience in animal care. Duties Maintain and monitor water quality parameters to ensure optimal living conditions for aquatic species. Feed and care for a variety of aquatic animals, ensuring proper nutrition and health. Conduct regular health assessments of animals, administering medication as needed. Assist in the design and maintenance of exhibits that showcase aquatic life effectively. Help customers with aquarium needs and questions Catch and bag up fish for customers Ability to work a cash register to check out customers Strong knowledge of freshwater and marine fish, invertebrates and plants. Customer service knowledge of livestock, dry goods and system support Skills Strong knowledge of animal handling techniques, particularly with aquatic species. Familiarity water quality testing and medication administration. Understanding of taxonomy related to marine biology and freshwater ecosystems. Experience in pet care or as a ZooKeeper is advantageous but not mandatory. Knowledge of both freshwater and marine aquariums Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
