Job Summary A direct hire opportunity is available for an Assistant Director of Community Planning and Development in Hollywood, FL. The Assistant Director of Community Planning and Development will support senior leadership in directing planning operations, supervising professional staff, evaluating development initiatives, and advancing community-focused planning programs. • Assist in leading the planning, organization, direction, and oversight of community planning and development department operations.
• Support the creation, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive urban planning, master planning, strategic planning, and land development initiatives.
• Coordinate and contribute to the annual Capital Improvement Plan, including review of development priorities, infrastructure needs, and project impacts.
• Supervise professional planning staff across commercial, industrial, residential, and community development projects.
• Help implement department policies, objectives, procedures, and programs that support effective planning operations.
• Oversee the collection, analysis, and presentation of data used to evaluate cost, benefit, feasibility, and long-term impact of current and future development projects. Compensation and Benefits
• Salary range: $140,000 to $175,000 per year.
• Compensation may be flexible up to the $200,000 range DOE
• Direct hire opportunity.
• Ability to travel locally and nationally is required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required. Required Qualifications and Skills
• Assist with comprehensive urban planning, master planning, strategic planning, and capital improvement planning initiatives.
• Lead and support land development services across commercial, industrial, residential, and community-focused projects.
• Supervise professional planning staff and support department policies, procedures, and operational objectives.
• Analyze planning, development, infrastructure, and community data to support decision-making and project evaluation.
• Bachelor's degree with major coursework in Planning, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
• Minimum of seven years of professional experience in urban planning, city or municipal planning, civil engineering, land development, or a related field is required.
• Supervisory experience is required.
• Must possess at least one of the following: American Institute of Certified Planners certification, American Planning Association credential, or State of Florida Professional Engineer license.
• Strong knowledge of community development design, urban planning, economic development principles, laws, regulations, and best practices is required.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, databases, and related planning or technical software is required.
• Excellent written communication, verbal communication, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills are required.
• Valid Florida Driver's License is required. Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience supporting Digital Twin, GIS, BIM, or other data-driven planning technologies is preferred.
• Experience with geospatial data modeling, 3D visualization, spatial analysis, and integration of planning, infrastructure, or asset management datasets is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with GIS-BIM interoperability, enterprise data governance, digital modeling standards, and Digital Twin applications for scenario planning, forecasting, and infrastructure analysis is preferred.
• Prior experience in a government, public sector, tribal, municipal, or community development planning environment is strongly preferred.
