Senior-Level Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Travel Demand Modeler to join our growing team! Hexagon's modeling practice is widely respected within the Bay Area and the surrounding counties. We have helped many cities develop their citywide models and use these models for long range planning projects. We have also been conducting model runs for over 20 years on the BART project! This role involves developing, calibrating, and applying travel demand models to support a wide range of transportation planning projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, excellent analytical abilities, and the communication capacity to translate complex modeling results into actionable insights for clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, calibrate, and validate travel demand models using industry-standard software platforms (e.g., CUBE, TransCAD) Utilize travel demand models to support a variety of long-range planning projects requiring VMT, turning volumes or ADT forecasts Analyze transportation data from multiple sources including traffic counts, transit ridership, household travel surveys, and emerging mobility data Prepare technical reports, presentations, and visualizations that communicate modeling methodologies and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field 5+ years of experience in travel demand modeling (mid-level) or 8+ years (senior-level) Proficiency with at least one major travel demand modeling software package (CUBE, TransCAD) Proficiency with at least one major Bay Area model Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization tools (Python, R, SQL, or similar)
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with activity-based models (e.g., ActivitySim, DaySim) Knowledge of microsimulation tools and traffic analysis software Experience with GIS applications and spatial analysis Professional Engineer (PE) license or AICP certification Published research or conference presentations in transportation modeling
