Immediately Job Description The primary responsibility of the Director of Academic Excellence and Support Center is to assist teachers with the academics of their students. Students may receive academic support through an inclusive model or pullout program. In addition, the Director of Academic Excellence and Support Center will work closely with teachers in helping student's access curriculum to meet Archdiocese and state standards and Individual Education Plans. In addition, this center will offer advanced math and language programs for the students. Parent support will include workshops and seminars in current educational topics related to Saint Paul School. The Director of Academic Excellence and Support Center will work collaboratively with the administration, Director of Admissions, nurse, guidance counselor, and teachers to ensure academic, social and emotional growth for all students. The Director of Academic Excellence and Support must have a strong commitment to Catholic education and should have a minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience or equivalent, a Bachelor's degree in K-8 special education. Experience with Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading programs. The Director of Academic Excellence and Support should possess a background with successful teaching in an elementary school and experience with elementary curriculum. The Director of Academic Excellence and Support should maintain an energetic approach to responsibilities, be a self-motivator and possess excellent interpersonal and communicative skills. Strong computer skills are also required.

Teacher-Related Functions:

• Provide assistance to teachers in resolving issues with students regarding academic issues
• Advise teachers on the contents of a student's Individual Education Plan (IEP)
• Research and provide for professional development activities for faculty
• Attend Common Planning sessions

Student-Related Functions:

• Provide informal pre and post-assessments of individual students as requested by teachers, parents or administration
• Act as an advocate for students having learning difficulty by collecting and coordinating prior assessment data and other relevant information to provide a year-to-year follow through for classroom teacher and parents.
• Observe at teachers, parents, or administrations request any student displaying academic or behavioral difficulties to assess their learning strengths and challenges
• Develop instructional learning plans with long-term goals and specific objectives for identified students, including recommendation of in school or outside resources (IEP)
• Oversee all students who are being serviced by IEPs and students who are identified as needing assistance
• Attend IEP meeting with classroom teacher
• Assist in making sure accommodations and modifications for students in need are met
• Provide an inclusion model of support for students and/or provide small group tutorial services daily
• Motivate and challenge students who are having difficulty completing homework and assignments
• Keep accurate documentation of sessions, meetings and other communications appropriate to ethical and professional standards.
• Cooridnates Grade 8 high school applcation packet and process
• Coordinates honor roll and academic awards
• Provide "Academic Success Workshops"
• The Workshop is a brown bag lunch for students to discuss and enhance learning skills. Topics to include
• organization, time management, etc.
• Provide Study Tables
• Study Tables is a place for students to do homework if they need assistance.
• Oversee "Study Skills" course for middle school students
• Oversee the nomination process for NEHS and NJHS
• Research and create an advanced program (Scholar Program) in the areas of math and language arts. To include selection criteria and curriculum.
• Oversee Afterschool Enrichment and Summer Camp programming Parent-Related
• Provide assistance to parents in resolving issues with students regarding academic or social issues
• Attend parent conferences, as needed
• Provide information to parents who are in need of student-related support services
